2. I had a car that gave me heel spurs - no shit
try some padding or some way to adjust the position of your feet (this is assuming you have tried different shoes, right?)

3. Be sure to get X-rays, even if the doctor says it's not needed.
Long story, but I learned that the hard way...get x-rays.

7. I had this problem, solved it with
increased water intake, and at every chance full flexion and extension of the feet.

not that I can say what I had is the same you have, jus sayin

what ever you do, be very careful with a surgery decision... most of the surgeries on normal people are not needed.

8. See your Dr. immediately, I had that problem two years ago
and passed it off for weeks thinking it was pulled muscle. On a regular Dr. visit I mentioned it to him and he sent me straight to the hospital for an ultrasound. Turned out I had DVT (deep vein thrombosis) a blood clot in my leg and I had been extremely lucky it didn't travel to my lung pretty much instant death. Since you could hardly walk after driving 3 hours that doesn't sound good. Remember the newsman over in Iraq that died from a DVT after riding in the APC for several hours!

Probably tendonitis. In my case, it's the peroneal tendon, and it was hurting me with every step, to the point where the podiatrist put me in a black ortho boot and on crutches to let the tendon heal. Hopefully, I'll be off the crutches in a couple of weeks.

My recommendations: RICE it. Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation. Also take lots of ibuprofen or other over-the-counter NSAIDs.

Every time you put weight on your foot, you'll put stress on the Achilles tendon, so try to do that as little as possible.

Assuming you don't have something serious like a ruptured tendon, you shouldn't need surgery (and you'd know if your Achilles tendon was torn - you wouldn't be able to lift up on your toes at all on that foot,) you might get orthotics for your shoes, advice to RICE it, maybe a higher dose of NSAIDs, and some sessions of physical therapy which will involve some stretching, strengthening and proprioception exercises and ultrasound treatments to help your tendon heal. If the tendonitis is pretty serious (as in it's insanely painful just to walk,) you might end up with your foot in an ortho boot or cast for a few weeks to give the tendon time to heal.

10. If you wear flip flops
or backless shoes, switch to something else. I feel my plantar fasciitis mostly in the back of the heel and it acts up whenever I wear flip flops. Try supportive athletic shoes.

11. Good advice here.
I've gotten some relief from switching to a high-topped light hiking boot in place of my old beat-up sneakers. Having something that supports your ankles really helps.
