A mycritters2 review of "Mamma Mia!"
There's 2 hours of my life I won't be getting back.

Oh, and memo to Pierce Brosnan: Singing is easier and sounds better if you OPEN YOUR FREAKING MOUTH!

2. In my defense, I ran into a nice couple from church at the benefit,
and they invited me to join them. When two very nice women invite me to spend an evening with them, I usually accept. But, honestly, there are more enjoyable things we could've been doing.

MUCH more enjoyable.

5. Any musical featuring ABBA just is not on my list of "gotta see movies."
Edited on Sat Aug-09-08 10:33 PM by davsand
Sorry, Lisa, but I have to ask what possible enjoyment did you think you'd get out of that movie? I used to almost break an ankle running to turn OFF Abba when they came on the radio, I can't imagine time has improved my attitude one bit.

When my Mom said she wanted to see it I quickly suggested that maybe she and Material Girl would enjoy it as a matinee. Yeah, I AM that awful human being that offered her child up to suffer in my place. I am going to Mommy Hell one day, I just know it.

Sorry your movie sucked. Hope the next one is better.

6. Well, see, it went like this:
These two nice women from my church sat with me at dinner at this benefit thing for a cancer victim. They said to me, "After dinner, we're going to a movie. Wanna come?". To which I replied, "Sure". It was only after that that I asked which movie. And by that point, it seemed a bit late to say I REALLY REALLY had to walk the beagle or write a sermon or get home to see how the American men's beach volleyball team was doing. So, I wasted two hours of my time.

In future, I'll know to ask which movie before I agree to go. Me and my damned people-pleasin' ways!

You, otoh, made the wise choice. You DO NOT want to hear Pierce Brosnan singing. In fact, I think sending your kid to such an atrocity might be considered child abuse in some jurisdictions. If it isn't, it should be! :hi:

10. aw, I thought it was great fun. True he isn't an amazing singer, but...
I was simply astounded that the Abba songs actually made sense in that context.

Meryl Streep is worth watching in pretty much anything she's in, and Julie Walters (look it's Ron's mom from Harry Potter) stole the show, I thought. Pretty difficult to upstage Christine Baranski.

11. See, I didn't think the songs did make sense. Not all of 'em anyway.

And what the hell was Sophie's fiance pissed off about? Seriously, that made no sense to me.

Oh, and are there a lot of Anglican priests in Greece? Cuz Greece is about 98% Orthodox.

I'm just picky, I guess. Or bitchy. Take your pick.

12. Rave on, woman!
 :)

I thought the priest was a bit out of context. But what the hell, it was a great "get away from the menfolk at home" movie.

But hell, like pretty much any musical. And this one had so many Shakespearean-type elements... I'm almost ready to watch Love Labours Lost again...
