Just found out that the guy who did my tattoo
is a CONSERVATIVE and proud of it. He's a vegan, tattoo artist and CONSERVATIVE!

I am shocked!

He supports McCain as well.

I should also add that he is the former boyfriend of one of my nieces.

1. Conservative and vegan? Is he a pro-lifer?
I know of precisely two conservative vegans (they're rarer than hens' teeth) and in both cases it's because of the abortion issue.

2. I remember he told me he was straight edge at one
time, but at the time he did my tattoo he did not label himself as straight edge.

My niece was brought up Republican precisely because of the abortion issue. All of my sisters are pugs because of that issue. One sister is DEFINITELY voting against her class interests and she knows it because she becomes VERY defensive when we discuss politics.

4. I guessed as much. A lot of the old school sxe bands were/are VERY anti-choice.
So that might well be where he came by the idea.

6. I know a handful of those...
one of my former coworkers was one and through him I met all his friends.

They're all vegan conservative militant pro-life "punks for Christ" with shitloads of scriptural and religious-iconography tattoos who say "Praise!" or "For Him!" a lot. Honestly, they border on some sort of satire or caricature of what they claim to be.

8. Religious punks?
I've run into this phenomenon before, but I can't shake the feeling that either they don't get the concept or I don't, and that the misunderstanding isn't mine.

11. There was a girl in my journalism class
who was vegan and pro-life, but on every issue besides abortion- gay rights, environmentalism, social security, gun control etc.- she was really, really liberal. In fact, she was a Kucinich supporter, I think.

Wierd.

12. Not really that weird...
Dennis Kucinich was a pro-life himself until sometime around 2001.

Published on Sunday, February 23, 2003 by the San Francisco Chronicle
WASHINGTON -- Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich, a recent entrant to the Democratic presidential sweepstakes, is in many ways a perfect match for Northern California. He opposes war with Iraq. He advocates universal health care, workers' rights and a holistic world view. He introduced legislation to create a cabinet-level Department of Peace. He is not just a vegetarian, he is a vegan.

But Kucinich also possesses one of the most anti-abortion voting records of any Democrat in Congress.

During his eight years in the House, Kucinich voted with abortion-rights advocates barely 10 percent of the time. Twice in the past three years, the National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League, now known as NARAL Pro-Choice America, gave him a rating of "zero."

20. I have a cousin who is vegan and conservative.
I think she is probably a little more liberal than she likes to believe though.

3. The only vegan conservative I've ever met was a neo-nazi
white supremacist douchebag. Not saying your guy is the same, I'm just saying that that is a very RARE (I think ) combination.

7. There seems to be a few on veggieboards.com
I haven't checked in a while, but there were a few whose comments and attitudes were what drove me away from that site. Great site and community, otherwise ;)

5. My daughter has a friend and her Dad is a Vegan and a class action attorney and a rabid rwinger
also a member of PETA, swear to zod. I asked her mom how that worked and she said it was hard to figure out but that's what he is, a vegan lawyer peta republican. He filed a suit against a porn king in El dorado hills, i had no idea how much porn was actually made up there at one guy's house but it's true, anyhow, he won the suit (the vegan).

9. Runs both ways though.
I was talking some business with a guy the other day, mid sixties, very well off, lives in a town known to be a hotbed of conservatism. Pretty soon he changes the subject, and starts talking politics. Told me how much he hates the neocons and what a disaster they have created in this country. Couldn't wait for the election so we could get a Democrat back in office to get things back on track, Said he'd been a Dem all his life. Could've knocked me over with a feather! Just never can tell.

15. LOL!!! That part of him I found to be very cool
It's the McCain part that really creeps me out and the fact he LOVES Ronald Reagan. Of course he was an infant during Reagan's SECOND administration so what does he really know of Reagan?

16. Yes, it's an awesome tattoo and is admired by those who have
seen it.

He also gave me a very good deal, which now surprises me now that I know he leans hard right.

18. I have a lot of friends from work who lean right.
Just like you are not only your political views, neither are they. There are good Republicans. It's ok to like them.
