Pig Dies Under Its Own Weight (900 kg)
<snip>

A 900-kilogram pig, the heaviest ever in China, has died at the age of five from lack of exercise, but may have a go at immortality by entering the Guinness Book of Records, state media said Monday.

The Guinness candidate, born and reared in the northeastern province of Liaoning, is well ahead of the previous Chinese record, a 700kg pig from the eastern city of Shanghai, the Xinhua news agency reported.

Experts at the Liaoning Provincial Agriculture Museum, where the deceased is now on display, plan to prepare for the Guinness listing soon, according to the agency.

The pig's owner, a farmer identified as Xu Changjin, expended special efforts on the pig, providing it with a "nicely built sty" and quality fodder for its entire life.
