another pile of morning poo
yep, woke up this morning to another pile of poo in the kitchen...

new dog, 4 yr old rescued greyhound with diarhhea... started him on imodium per vet's suggestion over the phone

only have had him since Sunday...but I think I'm going to call vet today and make an appointment -- he needs a check-up anyways

1. I used Lactobacillus acidophilus
on one of my cats that had extreme diarhhea - just took 1 dose....
I bought mine at the store, but here's a link

2. thanks - I'll check it out
as it will probably be a day or two before I can get an appointment...

Sunny has had it rough for the past couple of weeks, the people that previously adopted him are moving so they gave him back up for adoption. He stayed with another family for 4-5 days before we picked him up on Sunday

so it's basically, three different homes in about two weeks. I expect that most of this is just nerves and we are trying to switch his dog food (doing it gradually - adding new stuff to his old food a little at a time)

but he needs a check-up and to get established with our vet anyways --- so I might as well have the diarhhea addressed as well

3. My cat had it for a few days
I disolved 1 tablet and put it in a syringe and shot it down her throat. It was amazing - just 1 dose. I think I paid between 6-7 for the bottle. It's for humans, but hey, it works!

4. Changing dog food causes poo problems
Could be the reason. Be sure to tell the vet and ask for his/her recommendations regarding proper diet.

It could take quite a while for your dog to relax and trust you. Be patient... and be glad that it was in the kitchen (easy clean up).

5. I have found that mixing some boiled rice in the food helps.

6. Be patient.
I adopted a smoid and she destroyed alot of things. She got parvo and that cost $600. She nearly died. Sugar is a sled dog. She has her priorties, pull sleds, herd reindeer,be a great watchdog. She is tame now.

Give the dog a break, Greyhounds are raised for whoring betters and running fast, house breaking is not included. If you can't abide poo in your kitchen, get ripped off by the vet. Leave the dog be. Clean up the poo and see what happens.
I am thinking your kitchen is a non carpet type flooring. Try papers.
If you really like that dog give her a chance. Good dogs are made not born.

Forgive the rant. GOOD LUCK! Dogs remind us that we are all human. It is important now.

8. dog is housebroken
but he has the runs... can't hold it through the night - so it's not his fault

he knows enough to go to the door and jingle the bells hanging from the knob to let us know he has to go out, but at night we can't hear it from that distance

he has vet appointment on thursday to get established, general check-up, weight etc

sorry if I sound paranoid - but I lost two cats a month apart a year ago

then my 15 yr old dog passed away this past christmas.

Plus two older cats had bouts with eye infections and respiratory infections, and another cat had a slipped "kneecap"... and this all happened between november and january

7. this is beginning to sound serious
it's not good for doggy's to go with diarhhea for very long.
dehydration and all that -- and if your greyhound is skinny -- poor thing doesn't have much to run on.
hope this gets better for you.
