Poll question: What genre do you enjoy listening to most?
Be honest - the poll's anonymous.

Feel free to chime in if your choice isn't on the list...

Pretty much everything you listed except for hip-hop dance, bubblegum pop, and most mainstream pop.

Edit: Oh, and currently I LOVE the jam band scene.

5. A wide variety
Edited on Tue Feb-24-04 02:50 AM by populistmom
Classical (favorites are Chopin, Debussy, and Mozart), classic rock, 80's- early 90's "alternative", a little Motown, some singer-songwriter Lillith Fair type stuff, and occasionally a bit of jazz. Not into much pop or hip-hop. Some older country stuff I can appreciate like Patsy Cline or Willie Nelson (amazing songwriter), but most country isn't very appealing to me.

6. Classical - especially piano concertos
by Mozart, Saint-Saens, Rachmaninof, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Haydn, Chopin.

A question for officianados (Rabrrrrrr?) - Why did Schubert never compose a piano concerto? I can only guess that his solo piano creations were, in my opinion and perhaps his, the ultimate expression for that instrument - the final word, if you will.

30. I agree

I've been listening to Wilhelm Kempff's complete cycle of the Schubert piano sonatas and they're amazing - some of the best music ever written. They're not, however, virtuosic. The problem's that Schubert's piano music was often too difficult for him to play - unlike Beethoven and Mozart he really wasn't a very good pianist (better than I am, though :-) ). He didn't have what it took to play alongside a serious orchestra, especially the virtuosic music required in a real concerto.

or something like Linton Kwesi Johnson.

Ok, I also prefer Techno, in the 90'ies I loved E-Werk and Tresor in Berlin. A little hint, 'der dritte Raum' - 'the third area' from Germany. That's really good techno.

29. Not white-bread enough for this list.....
Country was ignored as well. Not to mention international music--from all the varieties of Latin through Irish.

One clue: Jazz & New Age are lumped together. Probably Kenny G & John Tesh would be the ideal duo!

pure pop, skinny-tie pop, whatever you want to call it.

Also jump blues, honky-tonk country, bebop, and lounge.

Add on edit: basically anything you would have found on a juke box in the middle to late '60s.

34. I voted for classic rock, but..
really power pop, folk-pop (like Dar Williams - just listened to Beauty Of The Rain again and thought I underrated it - I'll give her at least one of the top honorable mentions, as it's amazing except for two filler songs (#2 and #10)), folk, Motown/older R&B, and classical are often just as thrilling to me. I just think that classic rock is the most consistently great genre. Rock, country, and bluegrass of all eras, when they are good, are also high on the list.
