1. Because your Mom is acting like a dork.
No doubt she won't let you see some movie due to a little skin being shown.

But watching "Jesus" beaten up for almost an hour, that's ok.

God, save us from your fan fan club.

2. Everybody that I know (meat life), left or right, is going to see it

All of the fuss has breeded a lot of curiosity.

3. Bet she didn't go see Scorcese's Last Temptation of Christ.
It's okay if Jesus gets his ass whupped. Just don't put him in bed with Mary Magdelene!

4. Nope. Pat and Jerry told her it was sinful.
She's a Christian Coalition member.

5. Because it's a double standard: graphic violence is fine, if it's Jesus

who's taking the licks.

I just read the L.A. Times review of this picture, and its violence is, by all accounts, obsessively lingered over and severely stomach-turning. Those who usually avoid R-rated movies are in for something that will leave them aghast, and hopefully not righteously so.

on edit: typos

6. I don't feel comfortable going to the movies with my mother.
She's always frowning at any jokes that carry sexual innuendo. It's nearly impossible to find a movie we can see together. Even though it wasn't a great movie, my cousin and I could laugh at parts of Anger Management. If something "sinful" was done or said, I'd look at my mother and see her lips pressed together disapprovingly.

I can't take her anywhere.

Sorry...she's a religious junkie. I should have more compassion, but I just don't feel all that compassionate this evening.

7. Snappy Comebacks for Morbid Jeezers
"Gee, Mom, you didn't seem to have any problems with a movie that featured a 45-minute-long whipping and enough stage blood for half-a-dozen slasher flicks."

"What's a little nookie compared to a 2 1/2-hour-long movie of a violent execution masquerading as religious doctrine?"

"Hey, Mom -- so what if my religion has lesbians in it? And dogs. And Adam Sandler."

"Verily, my sister, I go in the name of Jesus to witness unto the unsaved matinee goers."
