My dumbass cat is stuck on the roof...
for the SECOND time in 24 hours!

Last night, Rudy got stuck up there. He cried. I figured "he got up, he'll figure out how to get down."

Wrong.

Two hours later, he was still up there crying. So I got a platform, held it up for him to jump down on, and saved his dumb little ass.

Tonight... he's up there again. I held up the platform, and tonight, he didn't want to jump. I'll be damned if I'll get the ladder out in the middle of the night. I'll try the platform again in a bit.

I love this guy like anything, but c'mon! Yer a cat! Climb down!

1. cats don't get stuck in trees and on roofs
When's the last time you saw a cat skeleton in a tree? Or on a roof?

3. it's a lot easier to get up there than get down - LOL!
ask my cat who ran up a freakin' pine tree because got chased by a dog. I had to call a tree service to go up 150 feet to get him down from the tree.

4. Don't we love them anyway?
Despite their insane faults. Kinda like humans sometimes.
You know cats can't climb backwards!

8. They usually get down
the way they got up!
I think the cat is suckering you or you have a dumb cat or cat that says: why did I do this, I must be nuts to give in to my climbing compulsions?
Love pets, they give one something else to think about besides the idiocy of current affairs.

10. He's playing you
(Disclaimer, I'm a dog guy, and we have horses, cows and chickens as well, but I reckon animal psych probably crosses the species boundaries, certainly dogs and humans are very similar :-)

Anyway, last night Rudy climbed on the roof thinking "I wonder how long I have to carry on before Dookus comes to save me?" and lo and behold, you did.

Same deal tonight? Is it cold? Do you find it embarrasing? The cat is having a great time, and will continue to do so while you continue to 'rescue' it.

I hope I haven't offended. I love animals, especially because they do these things. I could write several books on the silly things I do for my animals, and whats worse is I have to go and look silly for them when they trick Mrs Eureka, so I get a double dose. Even the cows look at me like I'm a fool :-)

11. Another reason cats should stay indoors.
Outside is dangerous.

I have four cats that we have kept inside only since they were born 11 years ago. They are happy and well adjusted and, more importantly, very healthy.

We have their mom, too.

15. That's always a tough one for me.
I have three cats, and I've had two others in the past. All of them are/were indoor/outdoor cats.

The first one, Scooter, I had for years in San Francisco. He was insane. Totally insane. He would attack me for no reason.

When I moved to the 'burbs, I let him outside, and his whole attitude changed overnight. He became a normal cat. He wandered, he fought with everything, but he lived to be 16, and I had him put down when he got cancer.

If the cats were content to stay inside, I'd love it, but they're not. I have a nice yard and they all tend to stay within it. They occasionally visit my neighbor, who dotes on them. They really really enjoy going out, so I let them. But I understand the desire to keep them in. I wish they never wanted to go outside.

16. We had ours fixed at the earliest possible point in their lives.
Perhaps that is the reason they seem to have no compulsion to go outside.

The beautiful mother was adopted by us when she showed up on our back porch in a March rainstorm in Atlanta and we eventually found that she had been abandoned at a boarding house nearby (We also eventually found she was pregnant, too. I swore that we would place the kitties out as soon as they were weaned, but by that time they all had names, personalities and were loved. 11 years later they are all still with us). She was inside/outside until she got locked in a neighbor's utility closet for several days. We didn't want her to go out after that, and she was OK with staying in where the weather was always nice, the food bowl was always full and the kitty water fountain ran 24/7. Her kids have never been out and don't try to get out, thank heaven. That makes our decision to keep them indoors much easier to enforce. I understand that you must do what your companion animals ask of you regarding the in/out issue.

The very real and mutually loving relationships I have built with my cats have convinced me of the sentient nature of animals and added an additional layer of commitment to my much earlier decision to become vegan.

12. You do realize this leads into an ollllld joke (and one of my faves)?
A guy's going on vacation and leaves his much beloved cat in the care of his brother. He calls home after a week or so and they're talking and after a bit, he says, "So how's my cat?"

The brother says, "Oh, yeah, I meant to tell you. Your cat died."

The first brother is grief-stricken and says, "How could you just tell me it like that? Why didn't you break it to me gently?"

His brother is puzzled. "What do you mean?"

And his cat-loving brother responds. "The first time I call you should say 'the cat's on the roof and we can't get it down.' Then a few days later you say 'well, the cat is pretty badly injured.' THEN the next time I call you can tell me that the cat has passed away. That way I'd be prepared."

The brother apologizes profusely. The cat owner finally relents and forgives him and then says, "By the way, how's Mom?"

His brother says, "Well, she's up on the roof and we can't get her down."

eileen from OH (sorry, one of my favorite jokes.)

13. ah, one of my faves, too
similarly....

An elderly woman is sitting home alone, when the doorbell rings. She opens the door to see a man in a uniform, who says "I have a telegram for you."

"Is it a singing telegram?" the woman asks, expectantly.

"No, I'm afraid not."

"Oh please, I've ALWAYS wanted a singing a telegram. Won't you make an old lady happy and just sing it for me? Please?!"

"umm... ok lady. Ahem. Ba-da-da-da-da-DA... your sister Rose is dead..."

the joke works better when you can actually sing the punchline ;)

19. It's amazing how cats totally rules us.
I have five toms and four kittens. That's nine cats all together and they've made it a point for me to know I live at their house!!

Glad Rudy is down!
