Favorite cartoons when you were a kid?
Me, I always hated Disney. Who wanted to be Mickey Mouse, the gormless twit.

OTOH, I was a HUGH Bugs Bunny fan. Who didn't want to be like Bugs? He never started the trouble, but he always finished it and always prevailed by way of guile and smarts. Wile E. Coyote was my childhood introduction to existentialism. Always chasing the meaning of life, symbolized by the Road Runner, he was eternally frustrated despite his best efforts.

And for sheer smarts, it was hard to beat Rocky and Bullwinkle.

4. Pretty much the same as you
I freakin' love Rocky and Bullwinkle — did then, still do. Can't go wrong with obscure references like "Weeth autographed peectures of Sonny Tufts!"

Bugs is a given. Much later, I became a great fan of Marvin the Martian, for reasons I cannot really explain. But it became a "gimme" years ago, though. Dave's birthday? Get him a Marvin!

I got 'em all over the place. :D

Oh — and one other:

The shame! The shame!

For longer than I'd care to admit, I wanted to be the kid in that cool car who chauffeured the Panther to the opening of the show.

10. Looney Toons, various Disney stuff, various Hanna-Barbera stuff.
Early Mickey Mouse was a lunatic, violent and dangerous. A far cry from the beloved benevolent character he became.

I liked just about everything. Woody Woodpecker, Bugs, Mickey, Wally Gator, The Mighty Heroes, Herculoids, Marine Boy, Tom and Jerry, whatever.

Popeye the Sailor I now find to be hilarious.

15. I'd forgotten about Woody
he was antisocial little SOB, wasn't he? Early Fleischer Popeyes are incredible - Sinbad the Sailor, Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves;

"Eoo, I doesn't know about this at all, A fella could get himself killed to death in this place."
"Well. hair today, goon tomorrow, uck, uck, uck."
"Who;s the most remarkable, extraordinary fellow - YOU, Sinbad the Sailor. Now who are you, ehh? I yam Popeye the Sailor, toooooot."
"Ahh, luncheon!:"
"Five, ten, fifteen, twenty, twentyfive, thirty, thirtyfive, forty, SOLD!"

The asides in those cartoons are so ad libbed, off the wall and wonderful.

21. Yes. A lot of talented people worked in all the studios.
It must have been a blast just hanging around the studio listening to these guys bounce ideas around. How priceless would it be to have clips of the things that could never make the final cut? They just don't make em like that anymore, Roger Rabbit excluded.

27. Rocky and Bullwinkle, Loony Toons, Terrytoons, Johnny Quest,
Flinstones, The Mighty Hercules, Popeye...

Basically, anything that was a cartoon, I'd watch it and love it (we're talking 1960s daily and weekend broadcast TV now...)

32. I watched ExoSquad as an adult
:)

Really interesting story and some good characterizations. To bad it didn't get the chance to complete or at least follow through the larger story line arch it was going for.

Did you know you can watch the first season on hulu.com?

31. Winky-Dink and You
It started in the 1950s but I watched the 1970s revival of it. The kid watching it actually participated in it. Your parents had to send for a Winky-Dink kit which included a clear plastic sheet that you placed on the TV screen and some "magic crayons." During the cartoon, Winky-Dink would get in trouble and you'd have to help him out by drawing something, like a ladder or bridge, that would help him get out of trouble. At the end of the show, there were some dot-to-dot things and you traced the letters to reveal a secret word. It was an interactive cartoon.

34. I loved Rocky and Bullwinkle, also Pixie and Dixie.
When I had a birthday at work, my partner was assigned to find out what was my favorite cartoon character, since they wanted to make a special cake for me. But when I answered Pixie and Dixie, nobody had heard of them, so the cake was in the shape of my little dog...:D

BTW, I once went to a Warner Brothers store, in San Diego, with my friend, and the doorway was flanked by huge statues of Bugs and Daffy Duck. My friend bought some things for her little girl, but they forgot to remove those locked things that are stuck on them. So when we tried to leave, Bugs yelled at my friend...:scared:
