Any DUers know Moab, Utah?
Just heard briefly from Mrs. Robb, her business trip (the drive home) got delayed and they're stopping for the night in Moab.

She said they've gotten rooms in a motel that's "across the street from the brewery", and they're gonna go over there and drink beer and work on a presentation they have to do this week.

Anyone know what "the brewery" means in Moab? Is there one big one, or something? I wanna call them up and send shots to the table....

1. Been through Moab
on our way to Salt Lake City. It's in SE Utah, on Highway 191.

Maybe this is the brewery they mentioned?

2. Moab's so small,
You could call any bar, or just pick a random resident from the phone book, and they'd know. Think John Ford Western mainstreet movie set.

3. Funny you mention John Ford westerns...
...the main street in my little town (which makes Moab seem like NYC) was the backdrop for most of "True Grit". :)

5. Are you at liberty to disclose
the identity of your little town? I used to spend lots of rambling time in the desert southwest - loved that wide-open big sky vibe. Monument Valley, which I believe was a favorite setting for Western shoots, carries special psychedelic memories.

4. Rats. Ah, well.
Just got off the phone with a nice guy named Scott who said they'd already closed. I suspect they turned around and went back to the motel.

Too bad. Worth a shot, I guess! :D

6. Breweries are up and coming in Utah
They actually have them. Moab is near Arches National Park...beautiful area. In fact, when landscape is taken into consideration, Utah is the U.S.' best kept secret. Hopefully your friend will be able to have a look at the park. Read Edward Abby's book "Desert Solitaire" before going. Abbey used to be a ranger at Arches, before roads were paved.

7. Canyonlands is right by Moab as well.Southern Utah is a gem.
My favorite Utah National Park:Zion. That's the one place I'd pick as being most representative of this beautiful part of our country.Even moreso than the Grand Canyon, although the overwhelming beauty of it has literally brought me to my knees before.

9. There is an absolutely SPECTACULAR piece of roadway near Moab...
go to www.mapquest.com and type in Moab, UT. to see - Utah Highway 128 from I 70 to U.S. 191. This is one of the most incredible sections of highway you will ever drive on. It follows the Colorado River and the canyon it has carved is just tremendous. The road follows the river and the rock walls shoot 200 - 300 feet straight up from the river bank. It must be what it would be like driving at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. I have taken that road 3 or 4 times in the past, going south on 191 at Moab and traveling down through Monument Valley. Truly one of the most scenic sections of this continent. If you ever need to get from Denver to Phoenix or LA, this is the route i recommend.

Truly glorious.

If your lady is going to travel east on I 70...TELL HER TO TAKE UTAH 128 as a shortcut to I70. Trust me, she wont regret it. And tell her to take her time and take lots of pics!!!

Sorry this has little to do with Moab, but i couldn't resist!
