I created an email filter that deletes emails with my name in the subject
I noticed that I was getting alot of spam in my yahoo account that has my full name in the subject line. Like for some bizarre reason the fact that you know what my first and last name is means I'll take your homeowners loan, larger breast or free passes for hot sex links :eyes: !!!

So I figured that most folks who email me that really are my friends usually don't put my name in the subject manner. They know who I am, I know who I am they don't send emails that say "Lynne you just have to meet us for drinks Friday night" (you get my drift)

So I put a filter in my email that automatically deletes any email that contains my first and/or last name

My junk mail - cut down to about a fourth of what I was getting

Go figure!!!

some friend is going to write with your name in the subj. and you'll just miss the opportunity to read it?

my filter blocks isps/domains, @whatever.com etc.

since i've noticed most, well all spam is coming from places i never have emails from friends, i just block the whole shebang...b/c if they are allowing spam, and if i blocked the sender ie. Tammi Spammer<xitpghidley@spam.com>
'Tammi' could just change to <zitpghidley@spam.com> and keep 'em coming.

I have now almost 200 blocks on. Cool thing is *IF* i really knew someone from spammer.com, i could use a 'white list' allowing that one address to get thru...

shame what we have to go thru to get away from spam, spam, spam, spam...

dp

edit: just remembered one other thing. I started noticing spam from ones mimicing my username as their own....so i'd be careful trying to kill spam with your own name in it. . .maybe/maybe not.

3. Another thing that worries me, is that I have been getting
a lot of spam recently with very similar names and addresses of real people with whom I communicate.
Packet sniffing?
Spyware? I run two spyware killers as often as I can.
ISP cracking?

Or just a coincidence?

BTW, I don't believe in coincidences.

4. Not really
Plus they usually email to my primary address which hasn't been hounded by spam. But I still use my secondary email so it helps.
