Does the new DU seem busier and less personable to you?

I feel almost like there are a bunch of new strangers and no old familiar ones. Not that I mind.

On edit: I think it's the new "View" counts and some other things of that nature.

I think it's the newness combined with features such as the polls which are less interactive. I also think when one sees 500 views and 2 responses they can form one of many conclusions...2 of them being..."good they read it" or "I am not worth responding to." Just remember there are always many ways to look at it!

As long as nsma is here, I can recognize the place.

I like the views thing; interesting to see how many people read, but didn't rise to respond to a given thread.

OTOH, that rate thing...gives me performance anxiety. Will it become a mark of status? Turn up in one's user profile or sig, the rating of one's threads? :scared:

I miss some of the features of DU1..(like the easy to use sig file area)....(this new version is trickier , since you cannot preview your sig file first)..

The font issue is tricky too..it's smaller and I had to fiddle with it.. but over all I love the new version..

Probably a lot of lurkers joined in because they wanted to play with the new toys too..:)

2. I thought I would like the "views" feature........but I think it's

distracting. It somehow makes me feel like we're selling something..........The ratings make me feel the same way , but they aren't being used as much.....and the font isn't as warm......and it's hard to read the posters names they are so small, so sometimes I don't even notice who's replying on a thread.......

But, I'm sure the Adminis are happy to get rid of that old software which must have been a huge headache. And, maybe in time they can tinker with the program more as they go along.

They've already improved some of the little annoyances just since Sunday......so maybe in awhile it will look more familiar.

All in all, there are some nice new features.

the fact that people do not respond makes no matter to me, they either agree and it is not worth their time to answer, or hate it so much they put me on ignore.

most of my posts are here now, since I cannot stand much time in GD, and most of them are meant to be humor, so it is good to see that people read them IMHO.

8. Yes, that's how I was trying to describe how it feels now.

But I couldn't think of the words: "Less personable."

Maybe "sterile" is a good way to describe it. It's sort of like a newer urban neighborhood but with no kids out anymore playing ball and such.

Or maybe I don't know what I'm talking about?

... part of which is just a trend which has been picking up for sometime. DU is clearly a much larger community now than it used to be, so just like any community as it grows larger, there are a lot more "strangers".

And, I think the new look just seems a bit foreign... so people "look" different. Some of us have new sigs. Lots of us suddenly have avatars. It's hard to recognize us.

13. Yikes, I wasn't prepared for this

My first view of the new DU after a week's absence, and quite a jolt.

If possible, I'll have to tinker with my preferences in regard to the font and size. At default the new version is much too big and bland and not nearly as gentle or as pleasing to the eye. For someone like me who visits in the wee hours and inherits threads with dozens of replies, the elongated threads of GD and P/C are going to be extremely difficult to wade through at this typeset.

But as someone with a math inclination I love the "views" addition. I'll be very interested to check the relationship between the number of views and replies, and how that varies between forums and topics.

The only obvious defect and must-change of this software is the "runtogether" of the subject line, author and date/time of the replies. They were nicely separated before, an easy glance at who responded and when.
