Anyone remember the hair-head vs. skinhead wars?
I'm referring to most heavy metal, punk, hardcore type shows back in like the early 90's...(at least that's when I was going)

Anyone remember the constant war between the skins and the hair farmers? I was a long haired headbanger.. and I remember we always had to be afraid in the pit of the skinheads ganging up us...

Seems like they went out on the weekends just *looking* for a fight...

I haven't been to a show in years, and it's been even longer since I've been in the pit.. (that wholw growing up thing.. blah)

Anyone else deal with this scenario?

Heyo

1. I used to be a hairhead. Now I'm a skinhead (not by choice).
Not to belittle your post, but couldn't resist the irony. I will post further, once I find my reading glasses, and after another trip to the john. Rock on!

I was reminded of that time, I guess.. because I've been 'diggin' in the crates' so to speak and listening to some old Bad Religion. :D

3. Oh, GOD, yeah!
More like in the mid to late '80s for me. That wildly sucked. I was friends with people on both sides of the haircut wars (didn't England fight a war over haircuts in the 1200s?), but there would always be a handful of skins who just HAD to start shit for their own sick jollies. Most people going to shows like that were into that music to rebel against the jock fucktards who'd hassle them in school, so it was pretty rotten to have to deal with that exact same b.s. at concerts! The time I saw Fugazi on their first tour was the last straw for me - violent skins galore at that show. Thank god the whole AmRep/Touch&Go thing happened in the early '90s. People magically stopped giving a shit about hair and you could finally pay attention to the bands without having to keep one eye on violent-asshole reconnaisance duty.
