Techie Liberals - how many of us are there?
I'm one

IN this industry I find that most are Dems, the rest, Libertarian, and then Republican. And this is Sales. In Tech Support, it was almost 45% Green, 45% Libertarian, 10% Dem (I knew 1 Republican in all my years)

What's your experience?

1. Most engineers I know are the libertarian type
most tech writers like me are dems or other stripes of liberal.

2. Yeah I've noticed the TW's tend to be Dem or Green
Maybe that's why I've always gotten along with the documentation departments.

3. Do you mean those that work in the tech field
or those of us that are interested in tech stuff?

I am starting med school and I find a lot of the people in it are dems.

4. I consider the medical industry tech
But not Computer tech - but still techie.

Hmmm...you have a large point - I was initially referring to computer techs but techies of all stripes SHOULD be considered.

5. Docs are really science geeks
:D

And yes, most of the ones I knew were dems or dem leaning. Of course there was the odd duck who just lived for tee-off time, but they were not well respected among their colleagues. :-)

9. Most Docs I know support Single Payer Health Care
Of all my doctors, only one didn't - and he was still a Dem. This was just in the 90's when we weren't so desperate. I assume he might have changed his tune now.

10. I think most doctors are not in medicine for the money
although it is a nice perk fro enduring school, I think they are in it because they like doing good for people.

I know I would support a system that allowed everyone access to health care. to not want that would be against what I am suppose to do as a doctor.

11. It's much easier on the MDs too

in a SP system. You don't have to worry about keeping an entire office of staff just to deal with the paperwork from umpty-eleven insurance companies, all with different forms and qualifications.

I actually had to drop a very good dentist several years ago because they stopped handling the insurance forms. edit: I mean they just quit dealing with everybody's insurance. They billed the patient directly and expected you to get reimbursed.

12. That sucks
Edited on Mon Aug-04-08 06:22 PM by jasonc
It really does. These damn insurance companies make it so damn difficult.

I am very lucky at the moment to have very good insurance that is very easy (so far) to work with.

13. I think part of it is the money - part of it is the bio geek thing too
I mean, you gotta admit.

Knowing how your body works to a tee is kind of a perk.

I love the science part of it. But I think we have only scratched the surface of how our bodies work, the fact that there is still so much to learn, and discover, is what REALLY interests me.

and I must admit, the potential salary for a trauma surgeon is not bad either... :P

15. If I could do over my life, I would be A Doctor in Drug Research
Seriously

Not for the reasons you think - I just want to know how to 'press buttons' on the human body.

6. Out of my entire class of 165
Edited on Mon Aug-04-08 06:11 PM by jasonc
I know of only two that are republicans. And as I always remind them when they give me a hard time about it, neither of them spent any time in the military, and I did. I think if their ass was in a position to get shot at, it would change their thinking just a bit...

When I say that, it usually shuts them up.

17. Our tech director is a right-wing conservative tool.
How do I know? He has liberal sites (like DU) blocked, but not conservative ones.

(Of course I never went to any of the conservative sites to check. I'm just assuming -- But I'm probably right! LOL)
