3. I need them to play the Classical Guitar , and I think they look nice too
I don't find them bothersome like most classical guitarists.

10. Gah... I can't play any instruments with nails even a quarter that long.
Although ironically, I can't stand using a regular pick so I use a thumbpick that's nicely attached to my finger instead. :P

11. I've never been able to adapt to a thumb pick...
I have a jar full of flat picks of various size, thickness, materials, etc... I'll choose particular ones for certain styles and/or instruments...

22. I think it's 'cause I started as a violinist, so I was used to picking with my bare fingers and not
a pick. And with guitar, a thumbpick has that pick sound but you don't have to actually hold a pick. So that works for me.

23. Yeah, the violin background would lead you that way...
I've also heard from other violinists turned guitarists that they tend to take a linear approach to the fretboard. True?

28. What others have told me....
is that they seem to want to move up and down the neck of the guitar more than someone who learned guitar first. Rather than move to the next string, they want to just slide up the neck. Not that there's anything wrong with such a technique- some styles pretty much require it.

I like playing around with all stringed instruments, really. Violin is a little out of my scope, but I have a uke and will hopefully acquire a mandolin and a banjo here soon. And a drum kit! :D

29. For single note stuff, sure. For chords... not so much.
Violin doesn't require your hands to be nearly as strong as guitar does, so barred chords aren't easy at first. :)

33. I've coached a couple of people who just totally rejected the "cowboy chords"...
I have no idea where that block came from, but c'mon- if you don't want to play G, C, and D then you're knocking out probably 75% of pop music from your repertoire!!! With one fella (the boyfriend of a singer I was working with) I just gave him a guitar tuned to an open G and put a piece of tape on the neck where the necessary chords were located and just let him barre up and down the neck. It worked, and it made him a "guitar player" for that particular performance.

As for hand strength... I'm largely self-taught (though I had a piano and percussion background), and my earliest mistake was using WAY too much pressure with my fretting hand (but with an el-cheapo acoustic, it's kind of hard NOT to). Now when I get tired, I sometimes find myself sliding back into that bad tecnhique, strangely enough.

34. Yeah, I played only acoustic for years. Which needs more strength than electric.

I just finally got my first electric guitar a couple months ago. MUCH easier. :)

35. Yeah, you got that Dean EVO, IIRC....
I'm on the hunt for an EVO 60 (one they made with P90's):

I acquired a Dean Avalanche for a friend to use as a prop and was pretty impressed at the quality for an inexpensive axe. I've since fooled around with a Hardtail and a Cadillac at the store and am convinced that they're good bang for the buck.

37. Yeah, eventually I'll probably get a strat just for the different sound. I tend to prefer humbucker
to single-coil, but every now and then you need a different sound.

But for now, I really like my cheap little EVO. I just got an airbrush set and I've been thinking about repainting it, but I'm a little paranoid about taking bits off and not being able to get 'em back on just right and ruining the sound. :P
