Fear me. I just used Algebra while figuring out a Fleetwood Mac song.
We've been requested to play Fleetwood Mac's "Everywhere" as the first dance at a wedding this weekend. The beginning has that super-fast bell sound and a few other keyboard bits. Rather than try to sample it or sequence it, I figured I'd use the arpeggiator for the bell parts. Only problem...the bell part is in a triple feel, while everything else is in duple feel. So, I had to determine the correct tempo in which 4 sounds fit into the beat, then use Algebra to determine the tempo for the arpeggiator so that 6 sounds fit into the beat.

All hail, King of the Dorks!

(For those who want to know, the original tempo is approx. 114 BPM. I had to set the arpeggiator to 171 BPM.)

2. Why do you need to rewrite the song?
I'm very confused.

4. You rewrote the song - I'm asking you why you had to do so.
Why not just play it the way they recorded it?

5. I didn't rewrite the song.
Perhaps I didn't explain myself clearly?

The beginning of the song has four different keyboard parts happening simultaneously. I have two of the parts being played by the arpeggiator when I trigger it with one particular key. I play the other two parts while I'm triggering the arpeggiator. However, the part I'm triggering is a series of extremely fast triplets. Because the rest of the song is in a straight 4/4, I had to determine the appropriate speed for the arpeggiator to play the triplets so that they match up with the regular tempo.

8. Oh! I get it - you're playing this LIVE!
Given the number of philistines that now very inappropriately have asshole DJs at their wedding receptions, I just assumed you were DJing (but not because I think you are an asshole), and wondered why you couldn't just play the recording as it was. I figured you were doing some bit of DJ assholery.

Thanks for the explanation!

And good luck playing it - thank God there are people who still believe in live music.

10. I suppose I could get our lead singer to play one of the parts from the other side of the keyboard.
Or I could play one of the parts in a VERY inappropriate manner.
