1. So the cliche about how little docs learn about nutrition is true?
How many nutrition classes will you be taking?

Are you into the ideas of preventing some diseases through food choices? (I won't ask about "healing" with food.)

25. Oh, of course! I think our generation (you are in your 30s?)
is more nutritionally aware. Maybe because we grew up on Wonder "bread", lunch "meats" and individually wrapped "cheeses".

33. Believe me
you can learn more pharmacology than anyone would ever care to know in one med school class on it. I would say one of my med school classes was probably equivalent to 5-6 college classes combined in terms of rigor and content.

70. Heh
yeah, that is definitely true. Medical education is pretty tried and true, though--it's all about endless repetition. During the course, one takes exams that cover all the material. And then at the end, you take a final covering all the material again. And then at the end of your second year, you take a national licensing exam that covers all the material for a third time. And as a third and fourth year medical student, you are constantly quizzed (and not knowing the answer is really not an option unless one likes being screamed at) by residents and attendings so even though it's a gargantuan amount of information, it ends up being pretty hardwired into one's brain.

Also, if nothing else, fear is a very powerful motivating factor. ;-)

I think a proper diet is essential to being healthy.

AS far as a certain food being able to heal a disease, I would ask this, What disease?

9. Med school is like boot camp
Or just a long endurance test of wills. (Followed by another long endurance test known as residency.) Your higher ups will put you on the spot at every opportunity. Be prepared for that. It's not personal, it's realism based upon the need for such a huge knowledge base. Oh, and during your clinicals, be nice to the nurses (*cough*) and put charts back where they belong! Good luck!

I would be so busy doing extra credit that I would forget to study for the test. Then, I would have to do more extra credit to make up for that test score. It was a vicious cycle.

24. Here you go
"Bioinformatics and computational biology involve the use or development of techniques including applied mathematics, informatics, statistics, computer science, artificial intelligence, chemistry, and biochemistry to solve biological problems usually on the molecular level. The core principle of these techniques is using computing resources in order to solve problems on scales of magnitude far too great for human discernment. Research in computational biology often overlaps with systems biology. Major research efforts in the field include sequence alignment, gene finding, genome assembly, protein structure alignment, protein structure prediction, prediction of gene expression and protein-protein interactions, and the modeling of evolution."

I'm a third year. Good luck with everything. The first two years are kind of a clusterfuck of epic proportions, and the beginning of third year is sort of like being thrown into a pool without knowing how to swim, but other than that and the massive loans, it's all pretty great ;-) (I actually do mean that, believe it or not.)

And wow...what a courseload!

Of the ones you listed, I would think Bioinformatics, Micro, and Pharmacology would be the most difficult.

I have my mother's copy of Neuropsychopharmacology in my library and tried to read it once. I never got past page 3.

Again, good luck.
