DU-specific jokes that are no longer funny:

1. "pev", "series", "seriesly", "moran", "hugh" (although "screwn" will always be funny)
2. The people-specific ones that have been pounded into the ground. You know what they are. (Midlo, LynneSin, etc)
3. FriedChickenPitBullBreastfeedingSmokingOliveGarden. We're all over it.

Maybe it was funny once or twice in reference to an epic flamewar, as a humorous means of comparison. 415,386 times later, it's not funny anymore.

"Series" and "hugh" are overdone. I never even got "pev," but it seemed like a cute way for some of the cool kids to reference each other, so I just sort of rolled my eyes. The people-specific ones are pretty annoying too - I rarely post in the lounge, but I read it quite often, and the fact that I am tired of toll booth and boxed wine jokes is pretty telling. (Nothing against the individual DUers in question, because they're not even the ones making the jokes, but seriously (seriesly?) people - it's not that hilarious.)

I think jokes like that, whether they're meant to be or not, are exclusionary - unless you "know" one of the posters in question, you look very strange making one of those jokes. I've been on DU for quite a long time, but don't post in the Lounge that often, so I'm sure most Lounge regulars don't really know me. If I suddenly made some post like "LOL Midlo how's the boxed wine?!" she'd probably be weirded out because we don't really interact on DU. It may not be intentional, but it is rather cliquey - that's the nature of having a private "in joke" on a public messageboard. Not to mention that most of these jokes are several years old - I mean really, how many times can you make the same toll booth or boxed wine joke over and over?
