4. I hate reality shows
except makeover shows like "Queer Eye".

Mr. RR calls Fear Factor "Boob Factor" because of the female pulchritude on display. I can't stand the show. I hate bugs and creepy crawlies-I would have nightmares.

9. The Simpsons is the only show I watch regularly on network TV
The rest is absolute crap. Ok, I watch the local news in the morning before work, but that's IT!

10. It's outsourcing of television...
nor is it based on reality, any 'reality tv'.

Eating the crap fear factor makes you do ain't real.

Not that I often stand up for actors, but reality shows do take away from real actors... writers too. (this won't stop me from whining about other issues related to acting and writing though... but not in this thread at least. Peace. :hippie: )

11.  Fear Factor? Sucks.
If I wanted to watch someone drink the intestinal fluids of a cow in ritualistic self-degradation, I'd go down to the Tri-Beta house at Carrol College during rush week.

13. Hey, that's my nine year old son's
favorite program! It's just background noise to me, although he lets me know when the good parts are coming up. I think we may have some sort of a Fear Factor marathon tonight, or so my son says. Whoopee!

14. Don't watch any reality shows
that humiliate people. I like the fun ones like Queer Eye.

I usually pop a JD DVD in the player. That way, something good is always on! :D

16. I used to watch that show
when I got home on Mondays after teaching my evening class. I thought it was pretty funny. The contestants would tease each other when they had to eat something really disgusting. And I admit, the bathing-suit clad contestents did hold my attention. But I got tired of it, it's the same shtick every week.

I remember an argument Neil Postman in "Amusing Ourselves to Death" (his classic anti-television book). He said television is not a problem when it provides foolish entertainment; there's nothing wrong with sitcoms or game shows, etc. The problem is when television pretends to be important -- while it treats serious issues in a superficial manner, and distorts debate with emotionally charged images.

17. "reality" shows
I never watch anything like that (history discovery learning pbs and cspan) so i cant comment on them. However, from what i hear, what we consider funny or shocking here is a way of life in many parts of the world, out of sheer despair.
I lived in Brazil for many years, and have traveled the world extensively and believe me what we consider a good laugh is a fact of survival for those folks
Disgusting
