Sexually deviant zuchinni
One of my zuchinni plants is producing lots of blooms . . . but ALL of them are male blooms so far (for the past 4 weeks). Is there such a thing as a sexually deviant zuchinni plant?

1. Is that considered deviant?
I would like to see some male on male bloom action, please.

10. Male blooms are slender stalks. Female blooms have a bulge
behind them that develop into zuchinni after being cross-pollinated from a male bloom. My other zuchinni plant also produced about 20 all-male blooms before it finally produced three female blooms. But this one just can't seem to make a female.

7. I'm almost certain that "Sexually deviant zuchinni" is redundant.
Perhaps Cabcere can comment.

legions of future lounge denizens, don't you?

Isn't there a guide to DU somewhere, and how do we immortalize this phrase?

9. That's a good point.
I think there's a lexicon for DU, but we really need something Lounge-specific.

13. Even my non-DU husband is saying that now...
When one of my cats came in the house all upset with a big, fluffy tail, he said "He must have tutched the but".

15. Harvest the blossoms and have your way with them.
Sometimes squashes produce only one type for weeks when they are young plants, although a month is pretty long for only one type. Count yourself lucky. If you had only female blossoms you'd have a bunch of baby squashes that would wither on the vine.

17. Squash blossoms make the best quesadillas!
Unfortunately, up in New England, they want 25 cents per bloom and it takes 6-8 blooms to make one quesadilla.

Too much money for my pocket.

18. Grow your own!
I had a half dozen male blooms on my plant last week and I stuffed them with cheese and herbs. They were great!

I'll have to make a quesadilla... when you use that term, which kind do you mean, flour or corn? Masa or tortilla?

20. Soft cheese (goat, cream, farmer's, etc.)
and minced cilantro, Mexican oregano and minced chives.
A little chili powder is good too, as is finely minced serrano pepper. Fill'em,twist the petals to seal the top, dip them in flour, then egg, then flour again and fry for a few minutes on each side.

25. See post # 10
The females have a bump at the base of them (the start of the zucchini.) The males are just flowers at the end of a stalk. You can eat female flowers too but that would defeat the purpose of growing squash ;) . Either way, you should pinch out the stamen/pistil from the center before cooking.

Pretty much all edible squashes have edible blossoms -- pumpkin blossoms are another favorite.

22. In this case, I mean corn
You spread the raw corn tortilla, put the stuffing in and close it like a turnover.

Then you deep fry it.
