DU Computer Gurus--Help!
What does it mean when my computer says:

"Explorer has caused an error in SQLLN.DLL"?

And how do I fix it?

Thanking you in advance for any and all help.

Tom

1. Fun and games from Microsoft. You just restart Explorer and if it happens
too often you reinstall Explorer. Windows has lots of bugs and are annoying and for some reason never gets fixed.

2. They never get fixed because they charge for tech assistance.
Clear enough?

4. What version of Windows?
Is "sqlln.dll" the correct spelling? I don't see it on my XP and not much came up with a Google search. "sqlnn" appears in reference to SQL server versions, not Windows.

What directory is it in? Do you have a virus detection program?

If the error is rare, FloridaPat is correct. Reboot.

6. try this for me
click START SEARCH files and folders and do a search for SQLLN.DLL me. Is that the correct spelling? Lets find out what program is using it and go from there. A DLL is a dynamic link library file. Like shared code so programmers don't have to code things over and over. My guess is its in the Windows/system32 folder.

12. ?
What OS are you using? If it is XP there will be a "Tools" option on the top of Explorer.

14. file not found
the spelling, SQLLN.DLL is correct? Have you deleted or removed any programs recently? The file SQLLN.DLL doesn't show up in any DLL databases. Thats why I question the spelling. I have another idea, its in a scary place but if you don't change anything you'll be fine. Click START RUN type REGEDIT. At the top click EDIT. In the box type SQLLN.DLL. When it finds it write down the place it is, it'll be a long string of stuff. Then let me know.

16. not yet
Don't restore the registry yet. When you clicked FIND SQLLN.DLL showed up in the left pane. In the right pane, right side of the screen, it is also hilighted. If you look at the bottom of the registry screen you'll something like H-KEY/LocalMachine/Software....
Something like that. Write that down and tell me what it says. Also did you remember if you deleted any software recently instead of using add/remove programs?

I hope this works.

Thanks again

Edit: Yes, I may have deleted some software without using Add/Remove. I'm not terribly bright.

18. WooHoo
Its ok, alot of people do that. We're gettin closer. What we have is a program that tried to "plug" into explorer. that software may now be removed and is causing the problem. What I want you to try first is some spyware removal software to remove the registry entries. We'll use 2, ADAware and spybot. download this http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ the free version. and this http://www.safer-networking.org/ . both are free run them and it will give you a choice to remove stuff. say yes to removal
