Flushing Toilets Leads to Crappy Toothbrushes - Take that, prisonflushers!
Toothbrushes not only accumulate all the little nasties ordinarily resident in our mouths, they can also serve to introduce fecal matter into our maws. Beyond the immediately apparent "yuk!" factor prompted by the thought of having such an intimate a connection with our bodily wastes, this is an issue of concern because that which exits our bowels is laden with microbes, some of them not at all conducive to our continued good health. It is a mistake to believe microbes which are handled well by one part of the body (our intestines) will be dealt with as efficiently by another (our mouths). That they all come from the same person matters not — we can, quite literally, make ourselves ill.

Fecal matter gets onto toothbrushes through the act of our flushing toilets we have just defecated into. Small particles of what is being flushed away are aerosolized into tiny invisible droplets which are sprayed through the air at distances up to 20 feet away. Our toothbrushes, lying helplessly on the bathroom counter, are routinely spritzed with stuff we would not care to give thought to.

So don't look too shocked when you come over to my place and find a few floaters

3. you know, thier are lids on toilets...
and doors on medicine cabinets for a reason... just put the lid down when you flush and keep the medicine cabinent closed and it wont be a problem, and just letting it accumulate in the toilet will only wosen the problem, letting it sit there and letting god knows what grow in there like some monster petry dish.

7. If you would shut the lid before you flush...
Or if you'd flush while you're still on the toilet, there would be no problem. We always keep our toothbrushes covered anyway, but those little things help. And the distance is 6 ft.

9. This is why I never brush my teeth.
...And only use the toothbrush on my poopchute, as God intended.

11. Aha!
My toothbrush has a little plastic guard that sits over the brush and the first few inches. I replace it after every use. Every few days I run the whole thing through the dishwasher. I have been accused in the past of being too tightly wound about toothbrush cleanliness. I may have to e-mail this around.

Where's the 'smug' button on these smileys?
