I got a second-degree burn on my forearm from the damn oven rack
I was checking on the baking potatoes and my bare arm touched the rack right past the spot that the oven mitt stopped.

It's been about a week since it happened.

I'm probably gonna get a 2 inch scar from it. :(

4. Do you have lavender oil?
The essential oil does amazing work on healing 1st and 2nd degree burns. :)

5. Really??
As a matter of fact, I DO have some lavender essential oil, so maybe I'll give that a try.

I've been putting Neosporin on it to keep infection away in the early stage, but now it's formed a layer of raw-looking red skin, so it's probably safe to try the oil.

Thanks for the tip! Come to think of it, I remember reading long ago that the nurses of WWI used lavender essential oil to help with wounds, too. It's very therapuetic.

22. You will not be disappointed.
I've used it on sunburns and cooking burns. Sometimes the smell is a bit too much for me, but I like it better than aloe alone. Together they're fantastic; for sunburn I blend 100% aloe gel with lavender eo and the next day, it's nearly gone.

12. Been there, done that.
Mine was a rather impressive first degree burn for the most part. I applied aloe to that section twice a day for weeks. Scar disappeared eventually.

Hi Shine!

13. Hi Gormy Cuss!
yeah, I think I'm gonna go back to the aloe. I was using neosporin, but now it's time to let the healing begin.

14. ...

I am so sorry and I know burns can hurt like a son of a gun, but there was just a post yesterday or the day before on pain and this kind of had to make me laugh - that post and the numbers of scars I have. Like a new one monthly - heh.

I was such a tomboy as a kid and now I am around barbed wire, rotten wood, broken vehicles, large livestock, and I am a klutz to boot!

15. That happened to me.

It took about two years for the mark to completely fade from the inside of my arm -- it was the side of a large baking sheet that we had to use as oven racks where I work. I was checking four full casseroles in a 450-degree oven when my arm brushed the side of the sheet. For months you could see the imprint on my skin. I thought for sure I'd be permanently scarred, but no.

(After my accident, the place found enough money in its budget to spring for real, honest-to-God oven racks. What a coincidence.)

ON EDIT: I was given a jar of Sulfadine and some high-powered pain medication. Didn't need the pain pills because apparently there aren't a lot of nerve endings on that part of the arm. The Sulfadine worked, I think, to help the skin repair itself as well as it did.

16. Ouch. I got a burn a couple of weeks ago (but not that bad).
And to show you how mature I am, I am NOT going to start a thread titled "Shine has a hot rack!" linking to this thread. 'Cause that would not be right.

17. Ouch!
Know how that feels, did it to my hand back in 1988 (I recall because of other stuff happening at same time). You wouldn't see the scar now if you didn't know where to look.

18. Keep vitamin e handy...
You know those gel caps of the stuff? Whenever I get a burn, I run cold water over it to start, and try to get someone else to prick one of the capsules with a pin or the tip of a knife, so I can slather the vitamin e on while the wound is still cold.

I don't know if I've had a 2nd degree burn before though, so it may only work on milder wounds.

I hope you heal quickly...:hug::hug:

19. Gak, that hurts!
I got a second degree steam burn on one of my fingers, when I opened the foil on something I was baking and didn't have an oven mitt on. Hurt like a mofo, and took about 3 weeks to heal. x(

23. I used to get them regularly from my wood furnace
It was so huge, you could fit an incredible chunk of wood through the door. Problem being that in maneuvering it in, I would inevitable come in contact with the edges of the opening.

I had hash marks all up and down my arms but for the most part, you can't see them.

Bag Balm. Always used it on burns. And everything else.
