When I saw that my not-fitting-into-DU had a flame next to it, my first thought was, "Oh, no, it's becoming one huge flamewar." However, i was surprised to see that it produced more insight than anger, so I would like to thank everyone who commented whose name isn't Nomad.

I would also like to thank elleng, mdmc, bunnies, and ColbertWatcher for making me feel a lot less alienated over the past few days. It's been stressful as hell, but I just found out a few minutes ago that my friend is getting out of the hospital tomorrow. (Insert immensely-relieved smiley here.)
