6-1/2 weeks to grandmother-hood...
My daughter's baby is due in just 6-1/2 weeks.

I wish I were there with her (we are 1500 miles apart).

2. I *refuse* to mention anything about that whole GILF thing.
I'm not suggesting anything, I'm just heading the obvious off at the pass.

4. Well...I'm 42, and my daughter is 21, so nature might beg to differ with you...
It's just that it's SO close now, and I'm not there, and I'm not sure when I'm going to be able to get out there (the timing is difficult, especially with two younger kids going back to school - I wish I could just go out for a nice, long stay).

5. That would be so great if you could be with your daughter, but
I can see how that's not possible.

And you know I kid, right? My mom became a grandmother (via me) at 44.

I'm older than that now, and my daughter, while she's married, isn't ready to have kids yet (she's busy with school). And that's fine. One of these days, she may have children, and if she does, I'll be doing the Happy Grandma dance too!

6. She wants her mommy with her for the birth.
She has accepted that it's unlikely to happen, but dang. I really hate to miss that important moment in my baby's life. My mother was there when my first baby was born, and I wish I could do the same.

The good news is that my sister-in-law is a labor & delivery nurse at the hospital where Kayla plans to deliver, and she has promised to go in even if she's not on duty, day or night, when Kayla is admitted. My own mother can get there within an hour or so, depending on the time of day. She'll also have her fiance's mother, so she'll definitely have some mother-figures around. The thought of my not being there is heart-breaking for me, though, and I know she's hoping I'll figure out a way to make it work. (Even if I got a last minute plane ticket the nanosecond she goes into labor, though, there's no guarantee I could make it out there in time.)

Aw, I really hope you can get there, even if it's just for a couple of days.
My mom, and my whole family, was at the hospital when I gave birth to my daughter, and it meant a lot to me, as I'm sure it did for you to have your mom there.

I'll send you some good vibes that you find a way to work it out.

Is there any other family nearby she can call upon if she needs some help or company?

12. Is this your first grandkid?
I have 2 grandkids and just love having them visit, and then sending them home with mom so I can do my own thing without kids around. Sorry they live so far away from you, that has to make it tough.

14. Yes.
I still have two young children at home (ages 8 and 6), so everything I do has kids around. ;)
