I'm sure I've told this story.

My old boss the chef sharpens knives for locals on the side. Guy comes in to pick his knives up, Chef shows him they are really, really sharp, tells him to let the knives do the work, etc.

Guy says "This is great. You know, we've been having a lot of trouble cutting the placenta."

Chef: "Yeah, yeah... you leave it in too long, you get that skin on top. By the way, it's pronounced 'polenta'."

Guy: "No, placenta."

Chef: "No, I'm pretty sure it's pronounced 'polenta'."

...This goes on for a few minutes before Chef got the picture. Dear lord, I laugh still thinking about him saying to me "'For the love of God,' I told him... 'Tell me you're talking about polenta!!!'"
