Brides trash their wedding gowns

If you think confetti is the most mess a bride should confront in her wedding dress then look away now...

A 'trash the dress' craze is laying waste to bridal dresses in dozens of inventive ways once the marriage ceremony is over.

Brides are choosing to ruin their gowns by burning them, swimming in the sea, rolling in mud and even paint-balling them – and many have posted the destruction on YouTube.

In fact, the practice has become so popular that canny businesses are competing to offer 'alternative' wedding photography services to cash in.

The trashing craze began in Los Angeles in the US and has spread across the Pacific to Australia.

'I thought it would be a good way of getting some really different and awesome photos,' said Loren Vincent, 27, of Sydney, who wore the dress under her favourite waterfall in the nearby Blue Mountains.

'I figured, “I'm not going to wear the dress again”, and thought that if I ever had a daughter, fashions change so much that she might not want to wear the same one.'

Photographer Adam Cavanagh said: 'The clients want more of a fashion shoot, rather than the standard family photo album.

'They are after something they will really remember.'

5. There are so many young women out there looking for beautiful dresses and unable to

afford them. Why can't the ladies who can afford them donate them to thrift shops or the Salvation Army? :(

but I don't mind those who aren't going to doing this. many just leave theirs in a box for decades, which is fine, and this is just an alternative to that.

10. My daughter donated her dress.

I thought it was a great thing to do, because the proceeds from the sales of the donated dresses benefited breast cancer research.
