Just got back from phonebanking and I feel bad.
I just gotta say it. I was mediocre tonight and I didn't enjoy talking to people at all. I hate that. I like to finish my volunteering with a feeling that I gave it all that I have. I didn't do that tonight. I also got baited into a "debate" with someone who never intends to vote for my candidate at all. I feel like a putz.

4. Me too.
I am the kind of person that would rather do the research and file paper work - I would not be good at phone banking at all.

2. My God that has happened to me more times then I can remember
Sometimes I would get so flustered and nervous that I would be embarresed, for the candidates I was helping

But I actually have gotten much better over the years. I can get off the phone quick when the call is worthless, I can leave a pretty heart filled voice message on answering machines, and I can chat up supporting and or undecided voters pretty good.

I've actually seen some local campaigns that were nothing more then a smart chairman (county dem party chair), candidate, and candidate's wife, and three phones. You really can reach out and touch people.

Keep doing the banking. It will pay off when you run for office yourself.

3. Hey, zanne. Don't sell yourself short. Phonebanking can be tough at times
but at least you were out there making a difference. I am sure that you connected with more than one person and you will probably do better next time. I wouldn't worry about the debate. You are going to run into ignorant people no matter what you do. There won't be much you can do to change their minds. Focus on the positive things that you accomplished!

5. Thanks everybody.
I'm going to drown my sorrows with Cranapple juice and go to bed.
