1. The wife and I just completed disc 6 of 7 >
of the original BBC series, plus we've been watching the most recent on PBS.

Really quite an amazing difference: Fleur despising Soames; Soames and Irene making up (more or less); D'Arty dying flush...

5. I'm a junkie!
We were enamored of the original....way back when it first appeared on PBS.
A few years back, after years of begging for reruns, we discovered we could buy the series from England. So we splurged and had the whole thing sent from London and then paid to have them converted to American standards.

When the tapes were ready we hosted a "Forstye Saga" party with British ale and bangers and mash to accompany the viewing.

Although the original series is a bit dated, it is far superior to the newer version. We particularly enjoyed the first Soames, played by the late Eric Porter.

8. I don't think so

I read where Nyree died a couple of years ago. She was 61. She had trouble getting parts after her portrayal of Irene because she was so identified by that role. Susan Hampshire (the original Fleur)is still around. She went on to do other parts for BBC productions.

7. The original is awesome
I bought the tapes on Ebay a couple of years ago. The original is very true to the novels.

I'm watching the new version and yelling "That didn't happen in the books!"

I wonder if the new series will continue with the the next three books in the series. Anyone know?

employed in this series. Very satisfying and engaging. Regular television is so vacuous by comparison.
Was tonight the last one?

There is another good program based on English history about a young prince...which stars Gina McKee from the Forsyte Saga, among others. I just caught the end of the advertisment for it but think it's in March. It's looks to be of equal quality to the Forsyte Saga.
