Amongst my "stable" of velocipedic machines, I have an old "lightweight" Huffy single-speed. Just perfect for those runs to the Pizza King or over to my GF's. But it has no cargo capacity. I need some kind of basket.

Now, Wald wire baskets, when you can find them, are about $20, and they look like a wire basket. A cool wicker basket (which is even more rare) cost close to $50. What to do?

So while I was cleaning out a closet today, I find a rather disreputable wicker florist's basket that I recall was a flea-market find from some guys who had a lot of fire salvage from a nursery shop that I paid a quarter for.

Re-work the front reflector bracket for a prop to hold it level (I have dynamo lights on the bike), and lash the basket to the handlebars with heavy hemp twine...

Et Voila! Un basket!

Works good. I hauled dinner over to her house tonight in it....

There's actually 3 models of carbon Treks, the $5300 "Madone" is the top, and the third one is also darn fine for less than 2 kilobucks....

If I were to put one on my bike, I know without a doubt she would pull it off and mangle it. She's always so sweet and nice, but she just sees red whenever a bike basket is seen or mentioned. Weird. :shrug:
