The early 1960 models had problems with breaking fan belts and unexpected handling - they were fixed by using deeper pulleys for the fan belt, and changing the tire pressures to improve the handling. In many ways, the Corvair handled better than the Corvette.
The 1965-69 models were extremely good road cars. But they were killed by the bad publicity surrounding Ralph Nader's book.
