New "Dawn of the Dead" coming next month!!!
Edited on Sun Feb-22-04 09:45 PM by nu_duer
Don't know how many "Living Dead" fans there are here, but I love those movies, Night of, Dawn of, Day of....

Anyway, just saw the commercial on SciFi for the new one. Evidently news of this has been around the net for months - but its news to me.

They're sticking to the mall storyline too.

A mysterious plague causes the newly dead to rise from their graves and begin to eat the living in this horror remake, starring Ving Rhames and Sarah Polley. During the ruckus caused by all the zombies walking about, a group of humans takes refuge in a shopping mall. Polley plays a young nurse, and Rhames stars as Kenneth, a mall cop.

8. Reminds me, Scarry Movie 4 !!!!

They've done the Teen Slasher, Poltergeist, and Alien Techno-Freaky genre. They have YET to touch monsters like Vampires, Werewolves and of course ... Zombies.

I can just imagine Shorty as a Zombie ;-)

4. Say that commercial last night
Liked the countdown of the town's population....was that in the commercial you saw? Looked too intense for me. I like the old horror movies without too much realistic gore. I'm such a wimp!

11. I just caught the end of it
but saw the countdown of the pop. on the movie's website.

I saw the original in the theater, and had to look away more than once. (like the scene where the guy who had been wounded in his leg gets caught by one of the zombies who squeezes right into that wound with blood spurting and screaming...yeah, sorry  )

7. Not the same ...

The original movie had NOTHING to do with zombies. It was a think piece about race and authority figures. In the end, the strong minded black guy was killed by a sheriff "just because".

I don't know HOW you could repeat the power of that film effectively. Even if you did, could you really repeat the context of the time, the 60s era clothing, etc...

BTW, the Simpsons spoof of "Living Dead" was hilarious. Homer pumped the Zombie Flanders full of lead, Homers response "Zombie???". Zombies overtake Homer, groaning for "brains". After sniffing Homer over a bit ... they move on.

9. I hate when they remake classics.
Just leave it be, it was perfect the way it was.

12. "Dawn"
The original was a social satire on consumerism. This one'll likely be the "Ten Little Indians" formula as each peripheral cast member is killed. It looks like a rip off of "28 Days Later", which was a good re-interpretation of the 1978 "Dawn".
