Are you a Yankee or a Southerner?
http://www.chuckchamblee.com/dom/fun/yankee_dixie_quiz.htm
I got a definitively southern result. 63%. I don't know whether to be happy about this or to be a little offended? The questions aren't really good measures of southerness, honestly...oh well, it's kinda fun.

...yet I have lived in Chicago my entire life.

On edit: Forgot to mention 43 percent. And my entire family has always lived in the North! Not that my score is a bad thing -- guess I am a citizen of the world, LOL.

8. Definitely Yankee
Born and raised in WI but now live in FL. The real give away was bubbler for drinking fountain. This is only used much in S. WI and IL (and somewhat in MA for some reason).

9. 56% (Dixie). Barely into the Dixie category.
I call it a 'water fountain' and I grew up close to the great lakes (twin cities, MN) - the area they said it's not used in.

I call it "icing", even though it's used in the south and avoided in the great lakes area... :D

I do use "y'all", so what? It sounds cool!

other terms I use are favored in Rhode Island and the NE section of the US; although I was born and raised in twin cities, US.

And don't trust the score, I deliberately changed some answers before scoring. Only TWO of the answers I used were southern-based, so I think my percentile is much lower.

Of course, I speak with a semi-British accent as well because I grew up watching PBS because I was too scared of people...

12. I said "y'all" about 6 years before coming down south.
Just thought it sounded more inclusive than any of the other options. (Also, I had a sleep-away camp counselor who said y'all, and in retrospect, I had a HUGE crush on her...)

Is that good or bad ?

Or do I get to add/subtract points for being a Canuk ! ?

How do I get a "southern" score

When I'm futher north than NORTH !!

ok - there it is - the disclaimer

"It is provided strictly as-is and for entertainment purposes"

Phew,

I feel better now . . . .

or should I ?

to know I'm southern to the core. I was born and raised in the south and I am proud of my roots. Besides that, I simply cannot abide cornbread with sugar in it; the only real cornbread has corn meal, salt, baking soda, an egg and buttermilk. It's best if you heat some bacon grease in the cast iron skillet you're going to bake the cornbread in.

It had to be a yankee who thought of sweetening something as perfect as cornbread! :loveya:

49. I got 49 % (Barely Yankee) but I grew up in rural PA
I suspect that the people who made up this quiz did not account for urban/rural differences. Yankee/Dixie is way too simplistic. Also, education levels will skew results. As people get more educated, they tend to begin dropping some of their colloquial ways of saying things.
