I quit smoking on 4/8/08
I cheated one time about a month and a half ago. For some reason I just couldn't take it and I smoked 5 cigarettes that day. I feel refreshed now that I quit. I can breathe easy with the knowledge that I have probably extended my life by ten years. But do I still want one sometimes? Yes, I still do. I'll probably still want one from time to time for the rest of my life. That's what they don't tell you about quitting tobacco. But the urge is not near as strong once you made it past the first couple of months. And don't kill yourself if you fall off of the wagon. Just hop back on and you'll be alright.

1. Congratulations Droopy
:toast:

I quit 3/4/07 and I still want one once in a while. I did cheat a couple of times, never having a full cigarette either time, but I didn't beat myself up over it.

:hi:

3. Congratulations!
I quit 3/26/00.

I very rarely ever get a craving now, but I do smoke in my dreams still.

Best wishes for continued success.

I have some recently reformed smokers in my family and I saw how hard it is to kick the habit.

Quiting smoking can make a Nazi out of anyone. I appreciate your ability to be cool with your familial ex-smokers. And I appreciate the congrats. :)

Just keep on keepin' on and you'll be alright. I know it's tough and I still have a hard time. too. One thing that has helped me a great deal is Extra gum. Sugar free and long lasting flavor. It'll do you up right. :)

I love DU. My new helper is "cool blue" cough drops. Nasty, I know. I call them my little blue friends!

12. My mother in Law quit about 15 years ago....
And she said she smells it now and wants to vomit. She wonders what ever even made her want to smoke. It will pass. My mother still likes the smell, but says that she doesn't crave them anymore. And she just quit back at the first of the year. It does get better quickly. Good luck! Good Job!

13. Thanks Duckie
I hope to be feeling the same way as your MIL in short order. It's still difficult for me at times. A fellow trucker at my company recently lit up a flavor that I used to smoke in my presence and I was very tempted. It just smelled so good. But I'm going to be alright from here.......I think. :)

14. Not smoking is great (QUITTING is wretched)
Congratulations on body-slamming the addiction. I was married to the little dears for decades. puff puff puff rain wind snow heat and in the presence of babies ( I exhaled the other way)

Smoking's gross. I am only seven months off the disgusting, beautiful little killer fumars but I give in to entryway smugness KOF KOF at the smaller-every-month clutch of ashtray heads. I don't have to damn them: they take care of that.

I can now smell if someone is a smoker from across the room.

I cannot abide being near smoke, even if it seems I can't smell it it gives me a scratchy throat for hours.

This state still allows smoking in food establishments: if someone lights up I will attempt to shame them to extinguish, or get my food wrapped to go. I hate it now. That scratchy throat bit was a complete surprise: I had no idea.

After four tortuous months all of a sudden the pull was not there, and I could see that the addiction was not all it was cracked up to be. I mean I was hooked, two packs a day full strength forever. Loved smoking. No more.

I realize i am only about ten minutes away from being a smoker again (idea/travel/purchase/light up any day or night of the year)

So far I don't want to.

Be strong and odor free!!!!
