Just saw "The Dark Knight"
Edited on Fri Jul-18-08 08:31 PM by LibraLiz1973
It. Fucking. Rocked.

If you liked "Batman Begins", you will LOVE this movie.
Superbly acted. Heath was fantastic, just like the pre-pub said.
I also REALLY enjoyed Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent. He was great!

I highly recommend the movie.

Side Note:
Previews at the beginning of The Dark Knight included the new Terminator movie- with
Christian (how hot am I) Bale as John Connor. Looks good!

1. I just saw it too
It was great. Ledger was great, as was Eckhart. A very good movie--I'm hoping to see it again next week :)

2. one of the best movies i've ever seen
I'd put it among the best crime movies ever made. Below the Godfather, but firmly among Heat and The Sting. Heath Ledger IS amazing as the joker and SHOULD win an oscar for his role. The scene with Batman and joker in the police station gave me chills. I thought it a bit premature that IMDB.com have it as number 4 (now 3rd) all time, but after watching it, it belongs at least in the top 40 of any greatest movies list.

4. The scene w/ Ledger in the hospital (SPOILER!!)
Edited on Fri Jul-18-08 09:47 PM by LibraLiz1973
dressed as a nurse sewed it up for me- he WAS the joker.
He wasn't "playing" the joker. He seriously just BECAME him.

I don't think Rachel is really dead. They never said they found her body, and I find that I don't think the Joker would have played that card. I think he would have kept her for leverage. Clearly the Joker was still alive at the end of the film for a reason. Of course, Heath's passing threw a MAJOR wrench in the story as it goes forward. But my feeling is that he had her at another location than the one everyone assumed, and that he never blew her up

5. oh god yeah (scene at hospital)
a few times during that movie i had to remind myself that that was heath ledger. He played it very much like Javier Berdem played Anton Chigur in No Country for Old Men, as an overpowering force of freakish nature that would rip your head off if you blinked for even a second. It sucks soooo much that we won't get to see Heath's joker in a third batman. Nolan better not dare cast someone else in that role. Heath Leader IS the joker.

6. Yeah, I consistently had to remind myself it was him too
I don't see how Nolan could cast someone else.
Anyone else would just be doing an impression of Heath Ledger BEING the Joker.

7. exactly
I almost don't see how they can continue the franchise. Everything up to this point has been created by the joker. This is the Joker's Gotham, even if he is now behind bars. You can't have a third Batman without acknowledging the joker and the spot he's put everyone in.

8. Good comparison, hadn't thought of that.
Kind of a cross of Anton Chigur and an evil PeeWee Herman.

Definite Oscar nomination, and at this point he should be the favorite. A performance for the ages.

20. I can't believe he really would be dead
Because he fucking OWNED that character and there is a lot they can do with that.
Tons.

9. I told someone I felt sorry for Aaron Eckhart.
ANY other film, and that level of performance steals the show. But with Ledger's performance, even Christian Bale looked average.

13. Thought it was great. My only beef was the length
I don't care how good a movie is, I simply don't want to sit in a theater that long, EVER.

14. we are planning to see it
and that's unusual, theatre time is obnoxious to us but some are worth the trouble. I didn't really know Heath until Brokeback and was heartsick at the news of his death.

15. It is full of win and awesome, definitely.
For some reason people brought little kids to the 11:20 p.m. showing we went to and when the injured side of Harvey Dent's face was shown for the first time they all started crying and wouldn't calm down and had to be taken out.

And yes, Ledger's Joker was sublime.

18. The forgotten Joker
You hear about how Jack Nicholson was the defining Joker until Heath. For me, the Joker was Cesar Romero from the Batman TV series.

Though, I prefer the Batman reboot and await the DVD release of Dark Knight.
