PSA.....deer mating season has begun!!
so if you are out there driving in the wooded areas, take it easy and watch for those 4 footed automobile smashers.

I just got hit by 3, yep 3 at once coming home from the grocery store. I saw them on the other side of the road and immediately started slowing down and hitting the horn, and they waited until the last moment to just come on over, into and onto my car. I sent them all sprawling and after a few moments they jumped up and with a flick of a tail or two, took off into the woods. I guess they'll survive... .....I'd estimate i was doing 20-25 mph at impact, they were just picking up full speed when we met. It was weird in that I thought I would be able to stop in time, and they were just standing there, and then WHAM, they went from stock still to full blast into me.

Took out my side light and grill, and left 2 nice dents in the driver's side fender. Oh well, could have been worse for all parties involved.

So, take it easy out there in deer country, they are out and coming to get us.

1. I'm glad you're ok.
Back in 1986 I was driving on a country road in Ohio and a big buck tried to jump over the top of my Fiero. (Anyone remember those?) His hoof got caught on the side of the car and he came rolling off the roof right onto the road in front of me. I'm sure lucky the roof didn't collapse on my car! Anyhow, it can be a bit scary. Have a couple of drinks and count your blessings you weren't hurt. :-)

3. Thanks, yeah i know it could have been worse
the gallon of milk on the front seat blew up and went all over the floorboard...that's going to smell good in a day or two.

A guy i worked with had what he described as a 'herd' go over his SUV and total it. He ended up laying down in the floor of the cab trying to escape the hooves and flying glass. I saw pictures of the vehicle afterwards, not pretty.

2. Do you have deer whistles on your car?
Not to interrupt them from the thing I never get to do, but so much the better...

6. Around here they are known as
deer calls...

no, i just try to drive carefully on those few miles i have in the wooded area. I'm used to seeing them in my yard and close to home on the road. After a few miles it's too populated and they've been driven out (i guess into my area at least).

4. That's the worst pickup line I've ever heard.
:D

Deer are funny. I was riding with my mother-in-law last year and a whole buncha deer started crossing the road. Little county dirt road, so hell, she stopped. Full stop.

Now count to ten.

WHAM!! Deer runs into the stopped Jeep. Not a thing to be done. Deer stumbles off like it's fleet week.

I tell ya.

8. yeh, i think if i had been stopped
at the same place in the road, they would have still made the same path into me, i really thought i was traveling slow enough for them to avoid me. About all i could have done differently was to head for the woods and led them that way.

it was a first for me, and i got 3 at once.

5. Um, deer mate in the fall
thats when the rut is, the gestation period is over winter and the fawns come in the spring.

Those deer may be looking for forage, licking salt by the road, or were roused about by other wild critters or loose dogs. i hope they are OK, sounds like a bad impact

7. oookay, i'm just going by what was passed on to me
relating the story to a neighbor. He said it was mating season.

Maybe it's just spring rush

I hope they are okay too, one of them ran into the side of my car fairly hard. But they all took off pretty quickly.
