4. I want to be excited about them.
The human rights violation stories and animal cruelty stories that I read about the preparations for the Games made me very sad. It taints what the Olympics are supposed to be about in my eyes. I''ll watch them because they are the Olympics and I always watch, but I'm sure that I'll feel a little pang of guilt about what I know went on behind the scenes.

Not trying to be a downer. Sorry.

8. I saw the new swim suits in the trials
Tres 1890's!

But I guess the technology is superior to human skin, so the more, the faster.

Other than that, meh.

16. No, hockey and ski events.
I can't think of a summer event I give a rat's ass about. I do like boxing, but not the way it's conducted / judged at the Olympics.

7. Absolutely
By far the greatest sporting event on the planet.

I've already cleared my schedule to watch as much as possible.

BTW, I appreciate a thread like this. We'll be bombarded with the always clever, "Does anyone else not care about the Olympics?" threads.

23. Well considering all of the Baltimore tv station spend have their sports
cast talking about michael phelps, it is kind of hard not to follow him. There is also a woman from this area who has qualified for five events. Don't remember her name.

11. They are always exciting.
I am very worried about the effects pollution are going to have on the outdoor events. I can't imagine there will be many records broken in those events.

Still, it is a wonderful specatacle to see the world's best athletes all trying to outdo each other.

13. I always watch gymnastics
I follow womens more closely than mens. The mens team is picked and the womens will be picked this weekend. Both the Chinese mens and womens teams have a good shot at team gold (plus home field advantage) but they do have a history of sometimes crumbling under pressure. Team finals are going to be great! I really need to try to avoid looking at results before I see the competition which is going to be hard with people at work talking about it.

Who do you think is going to be on the US Team?

Johnson & Liukin are already guaranteed spots from trials.

I can't remember any of their names, but I did watch the trials. I think we are going to have a good team.

25. I think Sacramone and Memmel will be there barring injury
Edited on Fri Jul-18-08 06:17 PM by lizerdbits
After trials I was thinking those 4 and the remaining 2 plus alternate most likely being Beiger, Worley, and maybe Sloan or Peszek. I loved Mattie Larson's FX but I'm not sure the US needs another FX, they need some good bar workers.

According to NBCOlympics.com Worley broke her leg at the selection camp :( I feel so bad for her! Apparently Bridget Sloan has a new vault and it sounds like Memmel is doing her DTY again. They also say Memmel had a bad landing and seems to have some whiplash. Hopefully it's not a serious problem since there's a day 2 of selection competition tomorrow. We obviously can't see the routines from the selection camp but I'm going to try to dig up some scores if they are posted somewhere.

For now: Johnson, Liukin, Sacramone, Memmel, Sloan, Peszek and the alternate being Larson or Davis. Hong seemed nervous at trials, so I think it might be too risky.

26. Thanks for the DEATHKKKAMP Info!
I feel really bad for Shayla Worley!

It is REALLY weird that this year we are a little short on bars. Even in 2000, we had an awesome bar lineup.

14. Usually, i would be... this time, though
I really feel like we have no business being there... kinda like the Moscow games in '80.

If that opinion puts me on the wrong side of public opinion, so be it.
