no yankees left in the game, lol. David Wright is the biggest name still in the game. Ya think Selig is pissed??

Is it possible to have one thread about baseball without anti-NY resentment?

Since when is Baltimore "flyover country????"

13. Baltimore doesn't get NEARLY the attention NY or Boston gets
baltimore or minnesota or Cleveland or Florida could come back from a 10 run deficit and win, but if the yankees and red sox are playing, those are the games they will talk about.

22. Yeah, baseball's a big conspiracy to make you feel bad about yourself
:eyes:

I usually have a couple of games going on in the background on MLB TV's Mosaic. I watch Baseball Tonight every night. They give equal time to all the teams. My local news shows Cubbies and Sox before they show anything from NY and Boston, if they show those games at all. I suspect your local news does the same for your local team. If not, it's because you have huge northeast populations in south florida, not because some cabal is shitting on "flyover country." Trust me. Nobody in NYC cares enough to shit on you.

So who is your famous "they" who only pay attention to the Yankees and Bosox? Answer: nobody. It's in your head.

tell me, when was the last time ESPN televised in primetime 2 out of 3 or all 3 games of a Dodgers-Giants series? Last I checked they had a huge rivalry. How many times has ESPN shown an Angels-Oakland game in Primetime or Florida-Atlanta or Minnesota-Cleveland or any two random teams where neither of them WEREN'T in NYC or Boston or Chicago?

110. really?
I'd love if you went to any small town and asked random people who Ian Kinsler is or Russell Martin or Dan Uggla or Michael Young. Then ask them if they know who Arod is or Ortiz or Soriano or Jeter. I betcha 9 out of 10 will know everyone in the second group and no one in the first. And my point in the post you're responding to was that none of the players the fans voted for, except Wright, who only made it in because Soriano was hurt, was still in the game by the 13th inning.

On the other hand, that might be why they are still playing. The lost sleep sucks, but the game is terrific. That Dodgers catcher is outstanding. So was Cook from the Rockies. The Pirate center fielder made some good plays too.

Florida won the world series a few years ago. Atlanta was in the playoffs year after year. Philly squeezed by the Mets last year. And the Yankees have made the playoffs 13 years in a row. In that time the Yankees have won it all 4 times. The Red Sox twice. The Marlins twice. And I think Atlanta won once. The action is in the East.

In any case, I saw a long segment just the other day on Baseball Tonight all about how the NL CENTRAL was the best division in the NL (objectively true, per records). This was before the Mets won 9 nine straight.

but maybe it cancels out the out call from the 12th inning (i think that inning) call at home plate.

There was a bogus stolen base in extra innings though.

and then ....

They go to game 7 with a 2 run lead in the 9th inning. 2 outs. Rivera on the mound. 0-2 count to Edmonds. Runners on the corners. He jacks a home run to end the curse and destroy the home that Ruth built. The universe collapses into a blackhole. The End.

115. D-Backs, as I recall, were pretty heavily favored that year
That was really a miracle year for the Yankees, with Jeter's miracle play at Oakland and two incredible come from behind victories at Yankee Stadium against the D-Backs in the series. Remember that the D-Backs went up 2-0, and then took a large lead into the late innings of game 3. Yankees won three straight at home, two with walk-offs. Then the D-Backs killed the Yankees in game 6, something like 22-1. And Game 7 was definitely a walk off hit in the 10th off Riviera (the Yankees had a one run lead going into the bottom of the tenth).

I'm a Mets fan. Grew up in the shadow of Shea, really. But that was 2001, and I was in Lower Manhattan on 9/11, and there was a strange kind of feeling in the city that they should win that year, and they really did far better than expected in some of the most dramatic playoffs in years (they beat the Mets the previous year, if you remember). I was pulling for them. This description is from memory, in fact.

116. I was so happy that the Yanks miracle season was squashed...
I'm vindictive like that, though. Plus, weren't the Yanks up in the 9th with Rivera on the mound? look at this lineup of Dbacks hitters: Mark Grace, David Delucci, Jay Bell, Damien Miller, Tony Womack, Craig Counsel, Luis Gonzalez... Is there more than 2 HOFers on that list? I admit that Gonzo had a career year and Gracie was solid, but who else? Rivera at that point had a 0.70 postseason ERA-- an all-time best. Big time choke from the entire Yankees defense.

118. I said I was a Met fan
I don't care if they choked or not.

It was sad for New York, I guess, and most people felt it.

I have the luck of being raised a New Yorker who has lived both in NYC as an adult and elsewhere, even in the sticks (Central Pennsylvania). What I found is that people who hate New York spend far more time hating New York than anyone in New York spends even thinking about the rest of the country. It's odd that way. It's like a group of high school girls who assume that some other girl condescends to them, while that girl doesn't have the slightest clue who they even are. This uneven investment in the whole thing is mostly manifested in Yankee hatred. But really, Arizona who? So the Yankees lost. Eh. Thirteen straight in the playoffs means you can lose some from time to time, and you do. It's never the end of the world.

It was the tenth, not the ninth. Definitely extra innings.

Did ya hear the Yankee fans BOOING the old-timers being introduced onto the field? Absolutely devoid of class.

And what is up with singing "God Bless America" for the 7th inning stretch? Seriously.
