Long but interesting. Scenery is gorgeous and storyline has some edits that leave some connections making you wonder...but still for some here, one you might want to see.

Left me with thinking about the uselessness of tribal fighting and what comes out of it...and what came out of it for them. It's very slow paced..not much dialog but excellent acting and many haunting scenes.

Probably better enjoyed by our DU'ers who've been around awhile because of the slow pace.

7. In a way I can't disagree with much of what Ebert says....and,
I don't like violent movies...and there is a lot of spurting blood in the battle scenes. Maybe it's the mood I'm in with our political situation but the grit of the young "Genghis," the haunting scenery and the vendettas of the rival Mongol tribes somehow reminded me of the madness we are living through in our times in some way.

I can see where many may think that it portrays the Mongols badly without showing the more detailed, intimate side of their culture since the film comes across more as a fairy tale about survival and the senselessness of killing until not much else is left. It was done as a collaboration between Russians and Chinese. The lead actor is Japanese. Interesting...

Anyway, I don't think it will reduce well even on a 72" Plasma screen the vistas are so vast, so it was good to see it in a theater.

The same theatre showing Mongol where I am is also showing Constantine's Sword and Reprise. I'm going to try to duck into one of those, instead.

As cool as the trailer looks, there's a part of me that is really, really, REALLY fucking tired of how indie cinema has become as synonymous with violence as Hollywood ever was ... and ya know, there was a reason why so many of us flocked to the art theatres that had nothing to do with what studio was financing the film.

4. My dear KoKo01!
This is one I definitely have bookmarked to see...

The reviews I've seen have been very favorable, and I love historical dramas...

I'm going to wait till it comes out on DVD, though...

Slow paced films are often wonderful...

Thanks for your endorsement!

10. Well...My "Art Cinema" has the "frechist and best" popcorn of any theater......
Edited on Sun Jul-13-08 05:57 PM by KoKo01
and it's always fresh and doesn't add alot of crap but they have "shakers on the counter" if you want more PIZAZZ in your toppings.

I didn't need that for that movie...we'd eaten out and were satisfied..but we always carry "TicTacs" to get us through if we don't do the big POP & SODA Thangy...

12. And....you have the advantage that if you don't like it...you can "pop it out" and watch
Edited on Sun Jul-13-08 07:51 PM by KoKo01
something else! It's good to always have choices. :-)'s So many movies we "walk out of today" after we spent $$'and coke and popcorn...feel cheated.

At home I can do what I want and pay less for the PC and Soda...and still have a choice if I don't like. We use "Netflix" alot... like it. It's saved us some big money...and allowed us to have a variety of viewing where we don't break our "piggy bank" and yet have many choices if we just want to "pop it out" and "put in the next one." No BIG BUCKS for ADMISSION and PC/TREATS & Soda..

He said it was good, not historically accurate, but nice.
