Why does everyone think I'm a man?
I'm serious. When people refer to me in posts, it's always "dude" or "man". My name is after a mathemetician. Let me say it here, once and for all:
I AM WOMAN, HEAR ME ROAR!
Think woman....breasts, female genitalia, smooth skin. Some of us do have opinions you know:shrug:

4. "us" is a masculine suffix in the original latin
Edited on Sun Feb-22-04 10:43 AM by librechik
You should call yourself "Mobia" if you want to be sure everyone knows you're feminine. It's a subtle thing, but I bet that is your answer.

If you wanna be REALLY sure, call yourself "Mobichik" (joke)

11. LOL, Mobius!
:D

I've gotten that to. In fact if I didn't make the occasional JD or PMS reference, I'd bet most people wouldn't know my gender. In off-line life, I tend to put a lot of women off because I have a pretty masculine communication style: no chit-chat, simple declarative sentences.

Do you experience something similar? Just curious.

I love your screenname, very chic. :D

16. Aww. Here's a hug for you
 Sometimes I  too.

Please realize it's NOT you. Please let yourself off the hook. It's really about our society's expectations of what a "woman" is. That includes being very publicly open and.... well....."feely." I mean very emotionally demonstrative, perhaps is a better way to say it.

I'm very reserved in public, at least until you get to know me, then I'm as open as with any family member. So I've learned to be patient with myself, even if others sometimes aren't. I do take a lot of guff about it in our gregarious culture.

Anyway, what I've learned is I can choose at certain appropriate times to highlight those aspects of myself that are usually hidden to others. That way I do come across as more accessible.

Again, to you. The Loungs is a fun place to express yourself.

:grouphug: for the Lounge.

You took a strip of paper, curled it into a figure 8 and stapled it to make the infinity sign....the teachers called it a mobius strip. Not a naked dance, not a drug....a math thing.
My attempt at a lame math joke. Can you tell I'm mathmatically challenged????

It just has to do with endings. Typically "us" is the ending of a male name. And "a" is the ending of a female name.

49. To be honest, I don't really think about it
The English language tends to be gender biased toward the male as you look back through HIStory. I knew you were female from you hot or not pic (I gave you a 10 because DUers all get 10's from me :) ) but when it comes to typed conversation, unless gender is a central topic or related to it, it's all the same to me.

I do know how you feel though. I've been called ma'am on the phone before. (my wife still makes fun of that)

Okay, I'm sorry. I oozing with naughty sarcasm tonight. The only way here to show you're a woman is:

1. have a name with "mom" in it
2. have a name with "goddess" in it
3. have a female name as your username (but that's not always true either as I remember AmyStrange who was a man)
