How do you pronounce the singer Sade's name?
Edited on Sun Feb-22-04 09:29 AM by Cannikin
My partner and I are having a little discussion on the correct pronunciation...

Is it Shar-day, or Sha-day.....or something else?

Damn, sometimes I'm SO gay.

3. You're both right

I got it directly from her (tour manager's ;)) mouth:

It's pronounced with just the SLIGHTEST hint of the 'r'...not ShaR-day...Sha(r)-day. It's not a sound we American English speakers often make, and it's hard to describe in text.

Hope that helps! :hi:

5. I've always had the 'shar-day' version in my head....
I'm a child of the 80's and back when Rosie O'Donell was actually funny as a VH1 V.J., after a Sade song, she came on and said simply...

"Sade, what can I say?
Your name is spelled...
a stupid way."

And I cracked up.

6. Thanks allot for the info! That settles a long standing debate....
And neither of us had to say we were wrong! Now I can go back to worrying about petty little things like the war, and the election.
