Just watched "Bowling for Columbine"
What a powerful movie. Moore certainly deserved the Oscar.

1. Right On
Still on my wish-list. Got "Stupid White Men" from my Bush-voting Pro-Life mother-in-law for Christmas. She saw it on my wish-list and thought it was a book of jokes about white people. The irony was delicious.

Need to get Dude Where's My Country. Friend of mine went to Moore book-signing in Milwaukee and got a Dude Where's My Country bumper sticker for me which is proudly displayed on my rear bumper (next to the Think: It's Patriotic sticker from democracymeansyou.com).

5. The soundtrack is cool too!
Joey Ramone's 'Beautiful World' really rocks and Camper Van Beethoven from the 80's did the original 'Take the Skinheads Bowling'. My kids love these songs; they're quite easy to sing along to.

2. I got a little teary-eyed
Edited on Sun Feb-22-04 01:36 AM by CastorTroy
during the sequence showing the American-supported atrocities accompanied by Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful Day".

Also, I would have never imagined it was possible, but I had a new-found respect for Marilyn Manson afterwards.

7. Same here
I have never listened to anything by Marilyn Manson but he appeared very intelligent and thoughtful. Try to get something like that from Justin Timberlake, for example..

It is amazing that so many RW try to ban "sex" or to R rate it, but have no problem with violence.

And... a glimpse of John Kerry but did not catch what he said. Longer shots of Joe Lieberman.

3. If you have the DVD be sure to watch all the extra stuff
especially Moore's talk about his Oscar acceptance speech. He's sitting in a backyard in Michigan last Spring chatting with us about the whole thing. It is fabulous and his demeanor is so enjoyable.

This guy is so sincere it sickens me when RW hate radio talks about him.

Also, there are speeches from over a year ago where he is already talking up how imperative it is to remove *. His arguments are so simple to understand yet so true.

6. I love MM
Michael Moore is my hero. What a man. The lies that are spread about him are flabbergasting. Everyone I know out here in the suburbs believes the shit too.

A great quote I heard in a class once:

Somebody said he enjoyed the private health care system in the US, and felt like it gave him good health care at a good cost.

Response: "You probably like it because you can afford it..." - Straight out of Moore's mindset. Where ever that guy is now, more power to you.

9. I Gave Michael A Standing O From The Balcony....
Great movie and that was a GREAT moment at the Oscars. You have to remember how brainwashed and paranoid the national mood was -- this guy is a champion for the truth.

10. when I first bought it, I had to
watch it at least once a day for awhile. I was afraid my favorite song (Wonderful World) ever would be ruined for me, but it just made it better.
I think I'll watch it yet again.....

11. The day after the oscar speech...
everone in my class was talking bad about Moore. I defended him and no one spoke to me for a week.
I live in Utah, so most people are mormon republicans. I think I know about 10 liberals. But after his speech I felt like I wasn't the only sane person left in the world. Michael Moore's honesty really helped me through a difficult time.

14. I went to see it the opening weekend when it was in the theatres
here in Southern California. It was only showing in a few cities and I knew that it had to have a really good weekend in order for it to be more widely distributed (to other theatres). There was a problem in the theatre we were in (of course, I thought conspiracy immediately!) and it looked like they weren't going to show the movie. Then, the audience raised all kinds of hell and the manager had to move it to another one of the rooms. While we were all waiting to see what was going to happen, a few of the folks got up to leave. I leaped from my chair and literally threw myself in front of the door and explained to them that it really needed to have a good weekend. By that time the manager was moving everybody. I have to admit, I was pretty damn proud of myself!!! I met Michael when he was doing his tour for Stupid White Men and you have never met a kinder, more sincere, and real patriot in your whole life. When people say he hates this country, it freaks me out (of course it's just a bunch of rw bs). He's doing all that he's doing because he loves this country. He is a true hero in every sense of the word.

16. My same reaction after 1st viewing...
Then after a couple more run-throughs you can see some .. mischaracterizations of some parts..and some slight flaws in his arguments.

My first reaction to the Heston interview was "Holy crap.. that was awesome! What a racist, gun loving pig." And then a few weeks later I was watching an A&E biography of Chuck and it turns out he was pretty big in leading Hollywood into the Civil Rights Movement, and I am pretty sure he did something with the March on Washington. Of course, people can change, I guess.

It's still a spectacular doc and he did deserve his Oscar, bad acceptance speech or not.

19. So, Charlton Heston supported the Civil Rights movement
in Hollywood...BFD...Fred Phelps (the preacher in Kansas who pickets the funerals of those who have died of AIDS) was a civil rights attorney back in the day.

Joseph Lieberman touted his support of the civil rights movement.

David Horowitz formerly wrote for Ramparts (a leftwing mag in the 1960s).

It's not what they WERE but what they DO NOW that is important.

Yes, it's good that Mr Heston supported civil rights but his views now appear to be too far to the right for my taste.
