I swear to the goddess, I have spent more on my pooch over the last 15 years than my car, my kid, or household repairs.

Today was a regular checkup, and with the physical, blood work, poop test, and the Heartworm an Flea meds, it was over $300 bucks.

And the cats are due for shots. *groan*

13. That is an very funny tax form!
I object to the first section though. The cuter your pet and the more you play the more you have to pay in taxes for your pet? :wow:

That would be truly Barbaric!

4. Just figure out a way to call it a business
Then you can deduct expenses against income. Trick is you do have to generate some income at least occasionally...

6. No shit!
Especially the dog. He's had multiple injuries and surgeries over the years. He tricks me into spacing it out over the years. He knows I lurves him to much to let him go. Little shit!

14. Oh yeah!
One of my beloved cats died of cancer after numerous vet house calls and trips to the vet.
One cat had surgery but it doing fine.
And one cat still needs more dental work done this year.

I could really use a tax deduction for all of this. :(

20. I don't even want to attempt to add up what I spent when my dog broke her leg last year
between the vet bills, the x-rays, the adaptive equipment, the specialist visits. Sad thing is that even after being recast twice and spending 12 weeks semi-sedated and confined so that she wouldn't walk on it, it still never healed right and if she runs around too much or walks more than a block she starts to limp. Breaks my heart. I can never decide if it's more cruel to let her run at the dog park and limp later or whether it's more cruel to make her stay home when the other dogs get to go out to play.

21. That doesn't sound good either way.
:(

I hope she gets a whole lot of love and attention to make up for not being able to run and play.

It's great... the feds let you have internet access whiel yo're serving your time. If they didn't, I'd have to relinquish my mod hat for 6-12 months or so...

9. LOL!
Wait .... What....?

You can make up a Social Security number for the dog, and then do time with the Feds? And get Internet access in the meantime?

ROTFLMAO!

I'll pass. I have to take care of my mother too, and I am a pussy.

:D

11. Slippery slope.
If domestic pets are = to the IRS as kids, where do we stop? Can't take a pet to the shelter? Can't hunt? Fish? Can't eat meat?

Zounds!!!!

15. Industrial farming corporations would end up getting the most
out of that kind of tax break anyway. They'd claim that tax break for each of the thousands of heads of livestock they cram into pens and cages, kill every one of those "dependents" and never pay a penny in taxes.
:grr:

12. I think there should be some kind of deduction
but people would get a bunch of animals and abuse it. Actually I think that vet bills should be paid for pre-tax, just like human medical bills. One year I spent $6000 on my dog - and now he is an 8 year cancer survivor. So it is worth it, but I still think it should be deductible for responsible pet owners.

16. getting animals spayed and neutered..
getting animals spayed and neutered should get us a little relief. All of my cats were found or dumped with me so my getting them neutered and saving the county the chance of dealing with more cats down the road should get me a few thousand dollars!

And Tonka's $1,200 surgery.. we pinch pennies every day then it gets sucked up by cat trauma.

It was amazing how many kids simply disappeared.

22. Can't you get them into pet modeling or something..
.. and then write the whole thing off as a business expense?

Darn it, Missy, we live in a state full of tough minded livestock farmers -- they have to know how to do this legally!

26. LOL! No shit! My cats ALLOW me to live with them. But,
.. the dog has been far more expensive over the years. Medical care, surgeries, food, boarding, etc.

I have nevertheless always felt more of a bond and feeling of kinship with my dog than with the cats. Don't get me wrong, I love my kitties too. It's just apples and oranges.
