Advice/suggestions on going to Brazil (pt. 2)
I had posted this awhile back, and got a good response...

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=105&topic_id=720569

After 3 weeks of tracking down every lead I know in and out of Washington, my search has stalled a little...Do any of you have any pointers on where i can search to find some employment opportunities in Brazil??? My background is in journalism/writing, and I'm looking to leave my current position soon (a candidate for www.fuckthatjob.com) I'm also open to maybe doing things in other fields. thanks in advance for any help you can give...just ask if you have any questions

2. I assume you have already explored the English teaching opportunities...
....I would think that something else would be less crowded however.

Of course there is the visa problem. I take it you are aware of this? You cannot really live in Brazil for more than 3 months of the year unless you have a job.

Brazil is an interesting country.

My downstairs neighbor just "imported" and married a woman he met down there while inspecting oil pipelines in Brazil.
She speaks Portuguese, which is quite similar to SPanish.

And that is what really pisses me off: there are SO MANY countries that we Americans could go live in off our savings, or where our savings would make us fairly well off and make it easy to go into business, but there are just a handful of countries where you can go.

1. Mexico: you can live in Mex 6 months at a time for just a small tourist visa fee. But Mex is not that cheap anymore. There are english teaching opportunities there, though.

2. Paraguay: they willingly take in immigrants.

Not really any other countries that you can go live in easily, as far as I know.
As for employment, the EU may be the best.....but you were looking for something warm.

3. ok
dutch; sent you a msg

cryofan, teaching ESL is something I've investigated for awhile (a few years ago i was hired to teach ESL in Taiwan, but I had to back out at the last moment.) I'm aware of the visa issue, and I'm trying to work through it with a friend of mine who has spent a lot of time there, and is also looking for a job there.
I've been active on the brazzil.com forums, and i've been reading a LOT of horror stories about expats trying to teach there, so maybe I'll try another field...
