Question about the porn industry

I was told several months ago by a friend that women play a major role in the porn industry as financiers, producers and directors. When I told this to a feminist friend of mine she want ballistic. I don't really know the truth here. Either this friend of mine had incorrect information or my feminist freind was just upset because she heard some facts that would have challenged conventional feminist wisdom about the porn industry. Does anybody know the truth of this matter? Do women play a large management role in the porn industry?

1. not in the very few articles I've read

over the last 20 years---some when that movie with Burt Reynolds was out a few years ago. Most of it seemed to be concentrated in a few producers (other than the amateur stuff) and the only women mentioned were married to the men named as big producers. I guess is a family business for some. Financiers---that's a tough one. Some of the front companies that have divisions that fund movies are in turn funded by all sorts of stock and money market funds. If we are counting that, then your grandma might be involved--or mine! :evilgrin:

In the future you will see more and more women calling the shots, and it will be interesting to see how the content changes because of this.

12. I don't think the content will change very much at all...

porn is a rigidly formalist genre. A number of women have already been writing and directing for years and their work is virtually indistinguishable from that of men. Candide Royale got a lot of attention years ago for her initial "feminine sensibilities" outings, but she eventually started producing work within the industry's conventions.

SUBSTANTIALLY more. I had a friend who actually got involved in the San Fernando Valley porn industry, and he made barely survival wages without any benefits whatsoever. In the meantime, his female costars were buying two or even three houses, and were making in the six figures per year.

And a lot more women are becoming involved behind the scenes, as well--writing, producing, and directing.

It's all about supply and demand, I guess.
