So, what were You doing at age 20?
At age 20:

Bill Gates dropped out of Harvard and cofounded Microsoft.

Canadian hockey player Scott Olsen founded Rollerblade, Inc.

English novelist Mary Shelley wrote Frankenstein, or The Modern Prometheus, which was immediately successful.

Ragtime composer Scott Joplin became an itinerant pianist and travelled throughout the Midwest.

Despite a lack of experience, James Cagney fast-talked his way into a vaudeville dancing job.

Egyptian hermit Saint Anthony gave away his inheritance and joined a group of ascetics, eventually becoming the father of Christian Monasticism.

D. H. Lawrence began writing his first novel, The White Peacock.

Jane Austen wrote Pride and Prejudice, her second and most famous novel.

English author Elizabeth Barrett Browning published her first volume of poetry.

Polish-born Joseph Conrad, one of the great English language novelists, began learning English, his third language.

Charles Lindbergh learned to fly.

John Stuart Mill pulled himself out of depression and found that the ordinary events of life could again give him some moderate amounts of pleasure. He decided that happiness is attained not by making it the direct goal of life, but by fixing one's mind on some other pursuit.

Leon Battista Alberti wrote a Latin comedy that was hailed as the "discovered" work of a Roman playwright.

The Greek philosopher Plato became a disciple of Socrates.

Alexander Graham Bell taught a stray Skye Terrier to talk; by training the dog to growl on cue and then manipulating his mouth and throat, Bell could make him produce the phonemes "ow, ah, ooh, ga, ma, ma," to say "How are you, Grandmama?"

I had a acute asthma attack and was in a coma for three days, a couple of weeks before I turned 20. After that I was on steriod inhalers, working in the Delphi auto plant(in which I was laid off recently from) and attending night school. I was hoping to get in the skilled trades apprenticeship program. If I did, I'd get a raise from $8 an hour to $14 an hour with raises every year. It never worked out though, so I'm now in college studying to become a history major.:)

most of the time. Every now and again when the shit hit the fan, I would get up in the middle of a firefight and try to patch broken parts of my friends back together, sometimes successfully, sometimes not.
That would have been my 3rd year in the Navy. I was looking forward to getting stateside, having been in and around VietNam for 2 years at that point, and getting OUT.
Alive, preferably.
Sort of a wasted childhood, huh?

I've been pretty much in responsible mode since the age of 20 (well on second thought, 19 really).

On third thought, 18 really since I was self-supporting a few months after high school.

doing Cholesterol studies and going to night university half time (yes I was young). We knew in the 60s that fat was bad for you!!!

Research money started to fall around the 70s. By the mid-80s it was limited to Aids.

Research funds fell along with other funding in favor of defense spending. All of society suffers advancement when too much money goes to military spending. Guns or butter..guns or research..guns or infrastructure...guns or education...guns or enviornmental research...etc.

I'm anti-war because, I spent most my career saving lives not ending them. Didn't protest much because, I was too busy.

Wrote my brothers in Vietnam. I wrote to a cute guy in the Marines..in Vietnam. They all came home safe.

I rarely parited then. I had too much to do. It was wonderful though.

63. I guess I'll find out in 5 months
Probably still working part-time and going to school- nothing really glamorous.

65. You know, I really don't remember.
I must have killed too many brain cells that year. :)

I know I was working part-time and going to a community college. I had a jerk of a boyfriend who worshipped Danzig (no offense to Glen!) and...erm, I guess I smoked alot too.

67. OD'd on Sominex
Thank goodness I didn't succeed in what I'd planned on.

Was in college studying art, had a soon-to-be-stepmonster I hated more than anything in the whole world, and had just had a relationship break up.

the end of 1986 and 1987 were the worst year of my life.
