Poll question: Favorite David Bowie Movie?
Edited on Sat Feb-21-04 01:37 PM by Ramsey
These are the movies that Bowie has had major roles in, although I really liked his brief turn as Pontius Pilot in The Last Temptation of Christ. And I left out his concert films.

I'd have to say my faves are The Hunger, and Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence. The latter performance was Oscar caliber, IMHO. I like TMWFTE, but it is a little off kilter.

2. Yeah, I remember seeing that at the movies back in '82 or so...
Totally freaked me out...to those of you that are tempted to play with the hard stuff, check this flick out...after seeing Christiane F., you may not be so tempted...

3. The creepiest line from TMWFTE
For me it's always been when the fascists say they are going to stop this alien guy and all his technological innovations because "This is modern America, and we aim to keep it that way". Deliberately making things worse to maintain control in the same hands. Does that ring a bell?

6. I can't believe no one voted for "Merry Christmas, Mr Lawrence"...
Edited on Sat Feb-21-04 04:28 PM by mitchum
so I did. It's the one that tests his acting chops (the rest just trade on his studied "freakishness")

7. I've heard that too.
Never saw it but recall Bowie got very good reviews when it came out.

17. Agreed
As I said, that was really an excellent turn at actual acting on Bowie's part. He's often said he doesn't enjoy acting that much, but I think he has a lot of talent.

10. 1 down and 2 to go
it's now just a "duplicate post" thanks to editing.
I can't vote having only seen TMWFTE, but I can sure talk about his music! my Bowie starter recommendation is "STAGE" double live set.
It has all the hits and is one of those Live albums where just about every studio version is improved upon.

14. Well, Bowie wasn't actually in that one
Although it's a very cool movie and a very cool song.

We'll have to have another poll for Best Bowie Song on a Soundtrack.

22. Bowie is an accomplished actor.
I'd vote for his role as Pontius Pilate in LAST TEMPTATION -- just terrific. A controlled sturggle between two kinds of power.

I hope Bowie makes many more films.
