I bought a whole new wardrobe.
Edited on Sun Jun-29-08 01:04 AM by MrsGrumpy
Yep, that's what I did. It started with a gift card and my father's admonishment to "get something that fits instead of walking around in those baggy clothes..." and ended with new shoes even. With heels. Life is so strange. Retail therapy isn't where it's at either.

Edited: because it's late.

1. I like retail therapy sometimes...
I'm not one for fashion though. I wear what I want, screw what other people think.

I'm cranky as hell this evening though, so don't mind me. :)

:loveya:

Yay for new clothes! :bounce:

2. I was in total blow out mode tonight so don't worry about bad
moods. I alienated two out of my two children in the space of 5 minutes and then just really melted down.

These clothes, they are unlike anything I've ever owned. A couple of halter dresses and halter tops...that sort of thing. I am a go out in my pajamas not caring what the world thinks kind of girl. It drives my son bat shit crazy. :loveya:

:D

Yeah, I'm in a crap mood. Eh, it happens.

But I'm soooo jealous. Me want new clothes. I just never have the $$ to overhaul.

I'm ok in my jeans and tank tops. One of these days I'll actually have something to wear to business/academic/formal occasions.

:loveya:

was "almost" harmless. I usually wear jeans but I have too many pairs to I stuck with some capris and skirts and stuff.

I also bought (and he will kill me for this) BabyG some boxers because he wanted to switch. How cute is that? And some polos and shorts (that go to my knees Mo-om, the other ones you bought aren't "cool" and skater-y) And WannaB got a new swimsuit at Old Navy.

3. Good for you!
I've bought lots of new clothes, but never a whole new wardrobe...

It's amazing what even a few things can do for your image of yourself!

Enjoy!

4. Everyone is pretty much placing bets on how long before it ends
up in the back of my closet or on a rack in Salvation Army. I'm funny that way. Myself was MrG so it's difficult to imagine.

8. I've always thought you were a beautiful woman.
And if you can walk in heels, you're a far more capable woman than I am. (I hate shopping, but once in a while . . .)

10. I'm usually a flat girl but these are wedges that my son really wanted
me to get so that I could be "pretty, like everyone else".

I have fallen pretty far pretty fast, in my pajama/sweat daily combos.

but I'm very much considering these for winter. I don't need them, but I do want them. Or maybe it's that I hate winter so much that I need an excuse not to wear socks and Crocs all winter. x(

Anyway:

I love my boots and they are coming with me on vacation even. :) I say go for it. I love them.

I think about you every day, and I hope that there is anything that will bring even a moment of comfort, or a smile.

Be your beautiful self.

I'm trying. I'm still here which is more than I thought I would be. Forcing myself to go to BabyG's ball games and do things like shopping and planning WannaB's graduation party keep me going. Thanks for not giving up on me.

and neither will the thousands of other people who hurt inside over what happened, and wish they could be any comfort at all.

You are doing the best you can, which is the best anyone should expect under the circumstances. You are cared about by people you've never met, and you are very, very important to all of us.

17. Oh, I absolutely abhore shopping.
I'm not a typical girl that way, I guess. It took me exactly one hour beginning to end. It is a chore.

I did do all of my Christmas shopping online and I have to say online shopping is the way to go because one does not have to get dressed. :)

19. It drives WannaB nuts because she is a shopper.
She gets all gungho to go shopping with me and then is upset because I want to go home pretty soon after we arrive at the stores. It's just the getting dressed, and then the driving, and parking and the busy stores, and the cashier lines...arggh. Not my thing.

32. y'all just need to shop with me and my daughter. I can make shopping
fun ...because I love love love to make fun of really stupid trendy stuff, ugly shoes and such and I LOVE LOVE LOVE a really good bargain and of course the requisite stop in the coffee bar/restaurant/whatever.

MAJOR TIP : shop on Wednesday nights. Stores/malls are the least crowded on Wednesday nights between about 6:00 and 8:00, at least in most places I have lived. The further south you live the more likely this is to be true due to Wednesday night church services. In Nashville, the malls were essentially dead on Wednesdays.

I enjoy window shoppping, browsing around the different departments and noting things that I would like if they were cheaper so that when they are on sale I can snatch them up.

Shoe shopping however I HATE mostly because I have a very difficult time finding shoes that do not hurt my feet.

22. As a fan of "What Not to Wear" I applaud your decision to enhance your appearance.
Edited on Sun Jun-29-08 09:07 AM by mnhtnbb
I agree that buying stuff is not where it's at, but it does make a difference in how you feel about yourself to know that, with a little effort (and some cash)you can present yourself to the world
in a different way.

I know there will be plenty of folks here who will criticize this opinion, but believe me, appearance
and first impression does make a difference. It will make a difference to bosses, customers, clients, and colleagues.

Good for you. Enjoy your new look!

30. Good for you for enduring it!
I hate shopping also-particularly hate getting dressed and undressed repeatedly. Don't like shopping online because I'm afraid the stuff won't fit and returning it is a PITA. I do like clothes but obtaining them is a problem. My teenage daughter, like yours, LOVES malls- she usually gets her friends' parents to drive them there.

Keep hanging in there- I am so sad at what you've been going through.
