I loved Payback. What a fucked up movie. Honestly, I pretty much like every Gibson movie. Can't say I'm all that excited about Passion, but oh well.

Oh yeah, and We Were Soldiers was incredible. Brought tears to my eyes.

One of those movies where the end had me going, "Whoa!" Makes quite a statement about war. I don't know how factual the movie was about that actual battle, but if it was fairly factual, that was such a senseless battle. So stupid.

The entire landing was a disaster, the planning was awful, the landing sites were poorly chosen...it was doomed from the start, and I think the film captures that very well.

I love that movie. Hilarious and very entertaining.

Lethal Weapon 4 was excellent, however I attribute that to Jet Li.

I like all of Mel's movies (that he stars in); I *almost* want to see The Passion, because dammit it's in Aramaic. However, I really don't give a shit about seeing it, because honestly, I already know how it ends.

...As we all count down to the release of "The Passion of the Christ." Or maybe not. I'm of two minds about the film, but I'll probably see it. If only so I'll be equipped to discuss it with those who also have. Bottom line: Gibson's dad is an old-school Holocaust denier, and I ain' t got time for that bullshit---though many seem to be more or less in his camp. Sorry! Dude is wrong! And Mel's wrong for not distancing himself from his dad's take. But then again, he's said his dad "never lied" to him, so that speaks volumes.

Oh yeah---this thread. "Road Warrior" is my fave Gibson flick. George Miller gets most of the credit here, but yeah, Gibson's perfectly cast. "We Were Soldiers" is a solid Vietnam film, and Mel is good in it. "Payback" was a lame, bullshit attempt to remake John Boorman's stunning "Point Blank." With Mel in the Lee Marvin role. Sorry. No dice. Not EVEN close.

1. The guy's not a hack; he CAN act, and this film showed it.

Not only is it my favorite Mel Gibson movie, it's one of my favorite movies, period.

Set in Indonesia 1965. Directed by Peter Weir. With Sigourney Weaver and Linda Hunt. 1982 release.

This was Gibson's first movie, made in Australia, and in he plays a young man who is really gorgerous but also mentally impaired. Not quite retarded, but with a very low IQ. He lives with his doting blue collar parents and works as a labourer.

He starts working for this middle aged professional woman, who has him do her yard and then fix up her beach house. She takes an interest in Tim, teaches him to read and expand his abilities. Eventually they fall in love and have to deal with the dual stigmas of her being so much older and his being slow. It's a really nice little story. Mel is really good in it. And gorgeous!

I also really like Gallipoli, Mrs. Soffel, the original Mad Max and Tequila Sunrise.
