Air conditioners and kittens

ThinkBlue1966 and my stepfather are currently working on installing the new AC we got today at Lowe's (thanks to someone who knows who they are.) They managed to get the old one out without destroying the lumber that was used to put it in, YAY! Cross your fingers for us...if all goes well, we'll be sleeping in a house that ISN'T 100 degrees and humid tonight for the first time in two months.

But the best part is that we'll no longer have to let the cats outside in order to keep from roasting them alive. Up until now, we'd had no choice--the only way to keep from death by heatstroke (literally) was to open both doors, and we had no way to block the cats in (no screen doors here.) The stray female we took in a while back wound up pregnant because she was outside during her heat cycle. Believe me, the guilt is excruciating--no need to lecture, I'm already under a mountain of shame for allowing our cat to contribute to the animal population. We just hadn't had the money to get her spayed yet--we were planning on doing so in August, with our financial aid.

She delivered her kittens today, and we already have two of them spoken for...here's hoping we can find good homes for the others. When we get our student aid in August, we'll be able to get her spayed (along with whatever kittens we still have) so it won't happen again. I'm breaking a serious Lounge rule by posting about kittens without pictures, but our camera is currently elsewhere, so I'll just say--we have SEVEN healthy babies--five males, two females. Three of them are orange-and-white, two are solid black, one is solid grey, and one is a beautiful light cream/blonde color. I'll see if I can snag a webcam pic later, but DU'er leftyclimber was here earlier, and she got to see them when they were still brand-new. Big thanks to leftyclimber for taking ThinkBlue1966 to the store--we got an inexpensive prepaid cell phone for my Mom, so Mom isn't stuck out in her shack-in-the-woods with no phone at all. So...YAY! Air conditioning, a phone for my Mom, a safe delivery for our (very tired) mama cat, and seven healthy babies. Today was a good day.
